Some of you have leather seating and some refer to it as "custom" leather seating.

Are there really different kinds of leather seating (color not important)?

Oh yes, there are many different kinds.

MOST passenger cars have "leather" seats with a thin plastic coating on them to "protect" the leather from the peons. That's why the seats are not soft and yummy like a good used catcher's mitt.

The Ford F150 King Ranch Lariot has seats made by a saddle company, and they ARE fantastic leather seats.

There is perforated leather seating, which breathes better.

There are the HARDER leather seats, which are the cheapest.

There are the CALFSKIN leather seats you can find in some high-end sports cars.

"Custom" leather seating shops can re-cover your seats with any kind of leather you want - just bring a FAT wallet though !!! ;D

Laterz......

Was custom leather seating then an option at the dealership? Or is this an aftermarket upgrade?
Custom leather is usually an after-market item the dealer will get for you if you want it. They usually have relationships with local leather shops and will HAPPILY charge you out the nose to get your seats re-covered !! ;D

I have the spec sheet on my truck (due to arrive any day now and I'm anxiously waiting!) and the interior option is labeled as "122 - Graphite Leather Interior Trim." Are the seats *all* leather or just the seating surfaces with vinyl or pleather otherwise?

I have always been under the impression that factory leather seating is almost exclusively leather on the horizontal and vertical seating surfaces only and the sides/back are either a vinyl or similar synthetic material.

More expert answers on this would be welcome.

You are absolutely right...hence the cracking in our seats we notice so well... ;)

Hmmm...I just noticed that there are 3 topics almost identical in subject posted...so in an effort to consolidate I will lock this thread, please carry this over to an early thread below... :)

The Av is available in either sport leather or custom leather. Sport is only part of the seat and custom is all leather plus heated and passenger power.
