Lifting My New Avalanche

GUEST
Just bought a new black Z71 AV w/intent on lifting it. My question is has any one used the whiplash 10in kit. Whiplash is local here in Sacramento. I noticed a new company truckin suspensions is making a 9.5in lift for half the price of Whiplash. They seem the same but dont know about truckin susp. never seen it used. I have friends w/10in whp. kits on there HDs and love them.

I haven't seen too much info on the Whiplash lifts for the AV's. I plan on purchasing a 10" Whiplash kit this week for my AV. What's really funny is that I live about 40 minutes from Sac. Good Luck, and if you find any info please pass it on.

Thanks!

Hi Guys - check with user simonselz or do a search on his post. He has an AV with a 10" lift. I don't recall which Mfg he used.

Just my opinion but a 10" suspension lift isn't good for much more than getting lots of looks. The ride, handling, steering, etc., all will be very compromised over a stock or 6" suspension lifted vehicle.

I like to look at monster trucks but I know they're not worth much on the freeway, around town or off road.

Please post pictures when you do yours.

Hey mabe I dont care about freeway driving. I have built 4 trucks w/38 to 40in tires. When done right u can do anything or go any where u whant even down the freeway. I will run mine against yours any time any place, rock pile, mud hole,................! >:D >:D >:D

there is no reason to get nasty, we are all just stating our opinions here. No need to run your mouth against anybody else, we are all friends here trying ot make the best out of our truck experiences. Anyway, you know the say the bigger they are, the harder they fall......

Hey, maybe you're a poser too.

You want 38 or 40 inch tires, be my guest. If you think you can do anything you want by lifting a 6000 pound truck up that high, be my guest. Let us know when your Av rolls off of a freeway curve or ramp because you went over 45MPH (oh wait, you don't care about going on the freeway). Sure, a monster truck can go over most obstacles but you (well I) don't want to be caught going around corners too quickly.

But wait, you already know that. You're the expert who's "built trucks" and knows it all.

Post some before and after pics (after you roll it >:D).

I would recommend Full Throttle over Whiplash. It's much beefier.

I had FT's 12" kit on my '01 Silverado w/37" 10 ply TSL SSR tires, Welds, 4.56 gears. Looked good and was fun off-road. But have you lifted IFS like that before? IFS kits are a pain in the butt with that much lift and tires. Plus, it's weaker than straight-axle, harder to maintain, and more difficult and more expensive to lift. Then once it's done, arguably less capable than straight-axle! Alignment was a pain, causing the tires (costing $270 bucks each) to wear unevenly up front (had them aligned/rotated every 2-3 months). The worst part though, was whenever something was wrong, the manufacturer, installer, and mechanic just blamed it on each other, always at my expense. Servicing was a total nightmare. Few mechanics REALLY know how to work on those trucks (but they ALL will try!).

Tires, wheels, 3/4 ton torsion bars, gear swap, suspension kit, alignment spacers, springs, driveshaft, dual shocks all around, installation...10 grand. Is it worth it for a daily driver like mine? How much are you doing it for the looks? If you're doing it for functionality, then why waste your money on lifting an IFS kit like that? Is it worth 10 grand to do it all correctly? That's your choice. But since you've lifted all these trucks, I guess you already know all of this...

Two months ago when I pretty much had everything finally working...well...acceptably...I hydroplaned driving 50 mph and rolled it over once, totalling it. Wasn't even on a curve. Straight, flat, interstate. For what it's worth, the kit remained solid, unbent, and completely salvageable. The truck didn't fare as well. Look at the pics.

"Don't care about freeway driving?" Well do us all a favor and start caring if you DO drive it on the freeway. I'm convinced that had anyone else been with me, especially kids, they would have been killed. So, drive a truck lifted 17" like mine very far at highway speed with your family and you are a friggin' moron! I only pray that you don't kill anyone else. They're for off-road, ya bonehead. Period. Don't kid yourself. My headlight bulbs were 56" high, which is 2" over legal here in TX. So, had I hit someone else, a novice attorney could easily have sued me into bankruptcy. STILL "don't care about freeway driving?" Use your head, man. Grow up. I love big trucks, probably get another one. But your attitude smacks of the type of idiot who will get someone killed because you think your truck is great under all conditions. There's no such thing.
