First time poster, but long time lurker. :) Read most of the posts surrounding first time buyers and have decided to step up to the plate. Since I didn't have one of the GM in the driveway certs and didn't know anyone well enough to ask for one, I decided to pursue negotiating with the dealer. Started via gmbuypower.com and located several vehicles that matched my description (sounds like a dating service huh). Asked for their best quotes and received several back. Did some further phone conversations and then got into talking with some sales managers. Some didn't want to even discuss pricing unless you were present in their dealership, but I did find 1 that would.

Started out by mentioning that I could "obtain" a "certificate", but I couldn't get one until next month. I reiterated that I was a very serious buyer and that if they were able to get close to the "certificate" price than I would stop in and get a deal done. Well, he didn't go for that and I was basically going to leave it at that. Then, he paused and he said he may have a certificate back in his office ;D Bingo! So, to sum things up, he's giving me the discounted price and I'm meeting with him tomorrow to look things over. He did mention that this particular vehicle was on his showroom floor and had a couple of dealer extras so I could decide if I wanted some or he could remove them if I didn't like them. Some things like extra stiching on the seats I couldn't, but he has chrome 20's on as well. He claims the wheels are $750 a piece  - so I'll have to see them and decide if I want to spend a bit more... I'm not going to nickle and dime him here though since he came through with the pricing, but I'm also not going to overspend. I wouldn't mind the nicer wheels, but I still would want the OEM's for winter use so I'll see if I can work something out. I'm also going to see what I can get for a trade in as well. I have a '98 Ford Contour SVT that I've babied since new. If I can get close to blue book for it then it's a done deal. If not, I'll probably still buy the Av and sell the tour on my own.

Just wanted to again say thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences on this site. There is an abundance on knowledgable people here and hopefully I'll have time to continue to read and hopefully post more about my own experiences.

Thanks,
Torxnut

Good Luck Torxnut. Just remember we'll be here waiting to see some pics of the new AV. We will also give you plenty of mod options once you make your purchase.

torxnut ... think about this too ... if it is a 4x4 Z-71 that you are looking at you can get the factory rims off ebay .... Iwould check there for a set/price and then see what kinda of deal he is going to give you on the factory rims and tires .....

by the way ... good luck and welcome to the club!

SB - mods in the future for sure - will start simple and hopefully the bug will grow...

Welcome to the club!

Way to work the buy! Even without a cert in hand sounds like you got a killer deal. I didn't know about the certs. (or they didn't exist) way back when we bought our AV.

Great job - now get some ambers on your AV! ...oh and don't forget to post photos of your mods :D we like photos ;D :B:

First off Welcome to the club!

Now forget the hopefully get the mod bug...... it will get you whether you like it or not! >:D The mod bug is a contagus(spelling?) disease that spreads like crazy through this group.

I know you will enjoy the AV. I know we all love ours!!

As Yak says don't forget the pics, we love tha pics! (y)

Pics and updates...
I read the imaging guidelines so I hope these turn out allright. Looks like I can't post 2 pics at once (or I don't know how) so I'll post another one in succession to this one.

Drove home my new Avy today - boy it drives nice - and geez it was nerve racking just driving it home. Hopefully I'll ease into it quickly.

First impressions:
1) what a ride - smooth over bad roads - I live in PA (pothole capitol of the US I swear).
2) nice features - I think I'll really get used to XM radio and have to sign up for the long haul. And I just love the look. Damn is this a pretty vehicle ;D and I feel like a proud papa all over again
3) damn is this thing big  Barely fits in my garage even after moving everything out. Will need to rearrange again tomorrow to see if a better fit can be worked out. Better half refuses to park on one side so I need to make some magic happen :E:

I can see the mod bug visiting me soon. Even though I got pretty much everything I could - I do like to tinker. But jeez this thing already seems too perfect to me...

Thanks again for welcoming me and I hope to at least get my ambers installed so if I do run into anybody in PA they'll know I'm officially in the CLUB (y)

Niagara GTG ? Great to see another new AV and hope you got a good deal. Dealer didn't have a certificate in the office, certificate program ended March 31. Starting April 1 authorization # for discount is specific to birthday & last 4 of SS# of buyer. If he had those and knew someone to call he could get auth. # but likely just did the deal without. Doesn't matter, enjoy your new AV (y)

Congrats and welcome to the club! That's one sweet looking ride! I like the wheels too! Did you keep em? It looks like it's got a brush guard up front too. What kind is it? Look out for that nasty MOD BUG!! It likes to eat through your wallet!! :B:
