Im not sure if you guys have heard about this in your areas YET, but there is a lot of new GM's getting broken into here in vegas! I was told how and didnt really believe it was that easy till i saw it myself today at the shop. All it takes is a little hole right below the key hole on the door handle, and you can see the lock rod!! :cautious: MY JAW DROPPED! WTF is GM doing? Supposively they added a thick metal plate on the 04's, but i havent seen it yet. Why not just hand them the keys to while your at it. Personally Id rather have a empty driveway then a raped truck. Ive had it happen on other cars and you dont forget that stuff. All I can say is GET A ALARM! And a pager is a MUST! And dont tease them by being able to see what you have, tint your windows dark. Its hot out here where you need tint but its a security measure even more! PLEASE BE CAREFULL!

So what are the theives doing now, drilling a hole in the door to gain access?

Butch

Anybody consider placing something hard in there like a retrofit plate that was mentioned? Maybe more drill bit proof?

I wonder why there's no keylock on the`04 pass side..?
Cost, or more risk?

Car theives need to be shot on the spot they are after all armed with a screwdriver or whatever. Either way there should be some justification to using deadly force.

i have guys comming in daily say the exact same thing, but this guy still had the hole. it was as easy as puting the lock button on the outside. when you push the rod up, its the same as using the key. it disengauges the factory alarm and all! in this situation aftermarket is the way to go!

and as far as the metal plate goes... sounds like a big job to attach 4 plates to the metal strong enough to stop a drill bit. you cant weld it because the other side is painted, so i have no idea.

these guys need shot!!!!!!

I would think that the plate doesn't have to be much to deter the thief. He is expecting a quick sheetmetal penetration. A plate of 1/8" stainless steel should be plenty enough to frustrate him. Stainless is pretty hard to drill.

As far as attaching, use some of the green 3M epoxy that RV manufacturers use to attach hinges to fiberglass hoods and such.

(Note, I haven't seen the inside of a door yet to know if this is feasible.)

can i get an "Amen"?

No GM didn't remove the lock on the passenger side for safety reasons, it was a pure cost saving thing. Wanna know what else I heard the other day, on the 2005 full size pickups GM is putting drums brakes on the rears instead of discs to save more money. Keep it up and GMs will have the quality of a Kia

It is now removed on the Silverado too.

No passanger key lock on my work 03 Ferd Exploder, either, nor on the rear door. And there is _no_ mechanical way, inside or outside, to open the glass hatch. Only way is to pop it with the remote.

theives don't even have to drill a thing all you have to do is take a flat head screwdriver push it on the key hole and it'll pop out  into the door (especially on plastic door handles) theres your hole to push down on the rod.

from there all they have to do is break the thumb wheel on the colom, pry off the key hole with the screwdriver, put the screwdriver in the slot stick a pin in to be able to turn the screwdriver, and off goes the avy.

i don't know if gm designers were just to lazy to think of a new method to lock our trucks, or what, it really sucks
