Hey all!

So a piece of this is to help some folk who may need it. My 2007 (07') LTZ recently had the sunroof stuck to open recently, and it is on it's last leg to say the least. The motor wasn't failed (at least completely) because it would open/close but would get stuck closed partially. Anyone looking into this should know - sunroof's are notoriously expensive to work on since you have to drop the headliner. So here's how I fixed it - I tried synchronizing it (holding close button for 30 sec), nothing worked, synchronized the vent (holding vent 5-10sec) to just try it and nothing happened. If i pressed the vent button the roof would close partially, only to stop about 6 inches in. I thought about manually closing it by disconnecting the motor (PN gm 15934722), but GM's part schematics are wrong for the LTZ... the motor is actually just to the rear of the DVD player - meaning you would 100% need to drop the headliner to access this, and would be a total nightmare and last option.

So my final attempt before paying 100s... I opened the sunroof all the way, cleaned the tracks with degreaser and made sure what i could access was spotless. After drying, I took off the sunroof's plastic sidecovers (not gonna lie, i had to rip them off since couldn't access the back clip). Finally after letting the degreaser dry up a bit I hit it with White lightning spray grease, and using the straw/jet on the can i was able to get it back into the internal tracks. I mean I really coated everything touching tracks. After this it would still only try to close using the vent button, so i used that to get it as far closed as it could. I then synchronized the vent again, and when I next pressed vent it closed a bit more (10 inches or so). I repeated this process until it finally sealed up, and finally resychronized it once it was in place and it sealed best it could and the computer understood it was no longer blocked for ventilation and had found its home. There was no resources online for this at all, and I mean for all GM sunroofs, so I figured if you're struggling like I was and hate the idea of dropping the headliner or having a gaping hole in your roof, hopefully this helps!

On another note - I disconnected the sunroof fuse (fuse 33) so that it would never move/adjust or accidentally be opened and get stuck again, and somehow it still works... so if anyone has any advice here on how to completely severe the power to the motor i will gladly take that. I'll likely shim the sunroof where it's flush with the roof (since it typically has the problem) and never use that nightmare of an accessory again. Good luck all!

:E: I'm surprised you could not find anything out there. I always clean my sunroof opening and tracks when I detail her. I hope that will keep me from having to go though what you did. Thanks for the writeup on this (y)
