Lumbar Automatically Inflating

Anyone out there having problems with their lumbar pumping up by itself?
Every morning I find it fully inflated and its driving me crazy. I had my Avy in for leak work the other day and the dealer couldn't figure it out so he changed out the switch just in case.

This morning ...just like a pair of Reebok's they are all pumped up again. Is there a service bulletin out on this yet??? Should I make them repalce the whole seat???

Somebody help!!!!

Pumped up in Pembroke Pines....... :C:

It's happened to quite a few people and not just on the Av's. Pretty much on any of the GM trucks with the inflatable lumbar supports. I had it keep happening in my Silverado and could never get it fixed. So the first thing I do when I get in is let the air out, just a habit now. :B:

It happens to me too!

I have noticed that when I step into the Av and slide into the seat, the edge of the seat compresses and actuates the switch. If I step onto the running boards and sit DOWN into the seat this doesn't happen.

:B:

I'm having this problem too... and I've been having back problems and it's really been annoying it.

Is there any way to just disable the lumbar support so it won't hold air without perminantly disabling it?

I do believe there is another thread discussing this issue.....I forget title but it talked about the same problem...not sure if they had a solution...

Yeah, I saw another thread about this but haven't seen a solution other than inflating and releasing the lumbar support every few hours. :cautious:

I get the same thing, but I am not convinced that the problem is not just me hitting the lumbar control getting in and out of the AV. I was going to have the shop look at it, but decided to wait as I continue to watch my entry and exit. Cheers - Jim

There is another thread discussing this issue...easy to find.

I was going to ask if maybe the inflating/deflating issue is because the "air" would be subject to Boyles Law, but the jury still seems to be out regarding if the lumbar system works with air bladders or some kind of plate.

If it is air, I'd guess that as the vehicle interior heats up the gas expands (and vice versa)?

I'll go ahead and add that this is totally IMHO, my $.02, may not be fact, what the hell do I know, wild-a$$ guess, blah blah blah so there is no confusion that I am not attempting to present this as a statement of scientific fact ;)

As to disconnecting, someone in the "other thread" confirmed that it is a simple plug that does not affect the air bag operation as speculated (the same disclaimer ^^^ applies here too!)

I also have the same problem with the lumbar support auto-inflating. I have also noticed that if i fill the support that it will deflate over an hour or so.

:8: This was one of main problems with the 1500 Avalcnhe I had. Dealer never could find a fault. I was also told I could be hitting the controls. For over a 2 week period I made sure I never hit the control getting in or out and the dam thing still moved. But there was no pattern to it. The only thing I could repeat was while driving was set lumbar to zero and side support to zero position. About 5 minutes later while driving I could feel this movement in the back of the seat that sort of felt like a very lite massage movement. Has anyone felt something like that?

Also I have heard that as the hotter the cab got the more it would infalte, but wouldn't it go down as it cooled off (NEVER DID). Just a theroy on expansion and contraction related to heat.

First I don't believe there is a air bladder in the seats to infalate. It is plates powered by motors. If I am wrong I wish someone would correct me here. I seen a post about a month ago in this forum and the guys fix was to unpower the controls.

That was an option (Lumbar that used an air bladder ) on a 1996 EXT cab Chevy pickup I had. Never had a problem there.

My current 2500 Avalanche has never had this problem yet. Same seat type and it has gotten pretty hot here in Indiana. I do believe there is a bug in the seat. Maybe a very small short in the design or something.

Hope this info helps out.

It's not an electrical problem because I have the manual lumbar dial and have the same problem.

OK, now that is odd.

And I know I don't bump it when I get in. If I get in and notice it's adjusted itself I'll try and turn it down and the dial is still at its lowest level. If if turn it way up and then back down again then it settles down and goes away like it should.

I also live in FL where it gets to be 190 degrees inside the truck. I didn't notice at all in the winter when it was milder but I sure notice it now when it's hotter. I don't know if it's the heat doing it or if I'm just now noticing it.

I have a pinched nerve in my lower back so believe me, I know the moment when it's not how I had it adjusted.
