Hello All,
Ok, I'd like opinions. There is a company that makes differential covers for the Av. It seems to be well made, it includes an easier way to change the fluid and it has a magnet to catch metal particles from wear.
Do you all think that it is worth getting one??
Here is the link:

Thanks, Durwin

I had them on my J@@P that was built/used strickly for off roading (of course this is when I lived in CO) and on a custom built sand buggy. Kept the pumkins cooler, made oil changes a snap and are very well built, I thought they were excellent. I guess is depends on how you are going to use your Av as to whether one would "really" need them. IMHO with a daily driver vehicle (no track time, serious off roading (rubicon stuff), etc.) there aren't a must have just a nice to have....

This is an excellent product and will do wonders for your rear end [exclude wallet] - the trick is to make sure it will fit with the spare tire - any body done it yet? ;D

I would do it in a heartbeat but I thought they didn't fit because they swaybar (i think) got in the way?

2500's don't have sway bars - need them, but not there - thats why I have the Roadmaster Active Suspension. ;D

Yea I know....I was talking about my 1500....Noticed that the swaybar comes REAL close to the cover.... ???

Covers are well made, neighbor ordered one for his half ton truck due to the rear end heating up while towing. He tried to sell it to me, because after he got it he just went ahead and traded for a 1500HD and did not have any use for it. I took it out and looked at it and climbed up underneath the AV, definetly does not look like it will fit. Like Carrera said the sway bar is to close to the rear end........Good looking product, but have no proof either way............. i would definetly give them a call and check first before ordering ..............02cents

I know for a fact that since the AV uses a standard GM 10 bolt rear. There are a handful of other companies making Diff covers with cooling fins. I'll check them out.

In one of the Truckin SUV mag's there is an article where they put a transmission pan and rear diff cover on the Av. I will dig up my old issues tonight and let everyone know which month it was.

Thanks for all of the replies. I'm going to look under my 2500 and find out if it looks like there is room. I'll also call the company and find out what there return policy is....

Zeeya2000

Tell me more about your neighbors truck what year, make model was it. just curious my A/V is going in on Monday to have the rear end looked at they think it over heated and is cooked I pull a 4000lb trailer
Thanks

RDSIGN, Neighbor had a 99 Tahoe with the 350 vortech and the 342 gears. He was pulling a boat just under 5000 pounds so he was within his tow rate capability.
His rear end (differential) kept getting hot enough that you could not hardly touch it. Dealer told him it would heat up when towing. It then started making a noise so he brought it in and (of course) it was out of warranty so he paid out of his pocket and had a brand new set of 373 gears put in it.
It still kept on heating up on him so he ordered the magtech cover thinking that would help out with the extra oil volume, but got a wild hair ?and went and traded it in on a 1500 HD.
98 was a very bad year for chevy having problems with the differential down here according to my service rep. I had one guy at our office that had to replace the entire rear end due to bearings turning. I think that is the right way to say it. It just about locked up on him and he had the 373 gears on a Z71. I told him about the recurring problems and his dealer would not warranty it since it had 60,000 miles on it. He had to pay about 2 grand for everything installed. His brother a lawyer contacted GM and they reimbursed him the cost plus a little for his trouble........
Hope this helps..........in some way..........

durwin, carrerarod and avrs, the stamped steel cross bar across the rear end, is i think called a track bar, to keep the rear centered up , the sway bar is for lean angle. somebodys gotta make a custom track bar to give us more clearance on the rear cover for a finned or thick chrome cover! 2500s have leaf springs and a bigger rear axle, with no track bar cause we 15002 have coil springs withn the 5 point locating system , the track bar is the 5 th link.. imagine a custom track bar all chome tubular with clearance for hd rear cover it will happen. rancho, or somebody will make it for us. or ill make my own with aircraft heim joints, cause im about ready to change rear diff oil and the cover!!!

I installed the Mag HyTech Diff cover on my 2500, 14 bolt 10.5 ring gear. No space problems, I did have to lower the spare tire to get the new cover in. They don't make a trans cover for the 80e trans yet, I did try yourcovers.com trans pan but that didn't fit, exhaust got in the way.

Did you have to modify the filler - there was a strange note on their site about that in the instructions. ???

Im running the (PML) cover on mine..., its basically the same as the Mag- Hitec cover.., but will clear the Track Bar, and Sway Bar on the 1500s..... There at (www.yourcovers.com) or PML inc. 310-671-4345 There an Aero Space Manufacturer.., and make some very nice stuff.....

Thanks,
Damon

Now this is an old thread....

Since then I have installed the Mag Hytec transmission pan.
The differential covers are now on sale at 4WheelParts.com

I think I'm buying one.
