I am new to the forum so if this is in the wrong place please excuse.

I just got a 04 AV and I would like to take out the midgate and leave the seats up. The only way I can see the midgate coming out is to remove the bolts.

Does the midgate have a quick release? How can I take the midgate out without removing the bolts? If I can't, do they make a kit so that I can make it a quick release?

I am getting ready to travel and I want to leave one seat down and the other up so that the dog can walk between the bed and the cab. I also have the shell on order and I would like to mount the shell with access to the back. Thats a later thing though.

Thanks for any help you could provide.

If I understand your note it can not be done at least not safely or easily. The midgate is not split so you must put both seats down or leave them both up. If you were to remove the midgate in the event of a crash there would be nothing to hold back what is in the bed. So be careful if you proceed.

I've never heard of a quick release, although it would be nice.

The four bolts are easy, leave the mid-gate in a reclined position (Laying against the seats.) then just remove bolts, then brackets. To put it back lay it reclined again and just bolt back in. I marked mine with permanant ink R & L. I don't know of this will make a difference when putting it back in. But I do know from what other members say that you can get used to putting in and taking out the mid-gate pretty quick.

Well I guess that sucks. Oh well. I do not want to remove the bolts. I was hoping for an easy way to remove it so the dog could run around. But I guess she can deal with the back floor.

ericu571!

All of these replies are correct but none of them offered you any other suggestions!

if you do a search some members have managed to spilt the midgate thus being able to have one side up with the seat and the other folded down do a search for splitting hte midgate and welcome aboard!! :B:

I have two doggies myself so i understand I have not yet split my midgate but I have thought about it many times and plan on making this a future mod!!

Couple more quick questions. If I unbolt the midgate and take it out. Will the window leak? Has anyone tried the shell yet? I am interested in adding a shell and then maybe a third seat in the bed. Can you use the shell and the roof wing at the same time?

I'm not sure what shell you are talking about?

you can split the midgate but the cross member must remain this is what supports the rear window!

If you are talking about the Snugtop bed cover then I think you can use this in addition to the sport wing spoiler!

If your going to do that then you can completely remove the midgate and the rear window!

OK Let me give you an idea.

First I am traveling on Thursday and I have the wife and kid and dog going with me. So I wanted to leave one seat up and the other down so the kid has a place to sit and the dog can go in the back, but I did not want to cut the dog off from the rest of us.

As for the shell, I ordered the XUV. I am a tech geek and do not need the AV for offroad or hauling. I am puting a computer and several TV's etc. I do not want a split midgate as I am getting the JL audio midgate. So with the shell on I wanted to make it so you could walk front to back and still have the seats if needed, so if it was a quick remove then I could take it out or put it back when I needed to. And have a seat in the back if needed. I am also making a little area in back for scuba gear as I am an avid scuba diver.

So basically my AV is more for showing off then work uses.
