Has anyone done any modification to their stock air box. I am thinking about buying a CAI for my truck.  Why couldn't you just buy a drop in K N and modify your existing box. The K&N CAI doesn't make any power until 5000 rpm. Not to great to me and expensive. If you could just open up your stock box to get more air you should get the same result.

A couple Members have. If you search trough this section you should come across them. In at least one instance I believe they used the drop-in and cut a 4" hole in the bottom of the stock box for added air. At least one I think also added a tube and ran it down towards the yow hook area for a "ram air" effect. Check here:

yeppers (y) that would be me. I cut a 4" hole in the stock box and the metal plate below and then added a Fram AirHog filter. I believe it was Darkwolf that ran the tube down below for cold air...but I am not sure

Well I'd have to agree you must try it before you knock it I did this mod today I had a 4" hole saw I work with alot of wood and therefore i have a whole set took me 15 min max to install I bought the 3" to 4" gromlet from home depot less than 10.00 checked these pics for the best spot to drill, drilled it out in about 5 min or so installed the gromlet and dropped in a new K&N filter works great for me I'll post pics as soon as I get wildfire to make the file smaller. Thanks for the info guys I had no problem following the tips and making it happen. I notice an increase in acceleration and lower rpm's as well cruisin at 75

I would love to see some photos of this. I was think of doing this to my stock air box was not sure were to drill the hole.
