I just installed the GM molded mud flaps to the rear of my Av.

I like the look and matching color (to the gray cladding).

In the accessory catalog at the Chevy dealer it said that you could not use the front mud flaps with the factory style running boards (like the dealer installed option).

However, in looking at some pictures posted on this board, it looks like both the front and rear fit with the running boards.

Can anyone shed some more light on this? I'm still planning on getting some running boards and don't want to waste money on front mud flaps if I have to take them off later.

Thanks...Jim

My dealer told me the same thing. Said if I wanted the flaps on the front, I'd have to upgrade to the tubular style chrome GM rails. I did. Like the look of the chrome better, but their not as useful as the standard ones appear to be.

I saw the same pictures on here that you did. It's a good question.

I decided though, after a lot of looking and thought, that I liked the look better without the mud flaps so I took them off. I intend to offer them for sale on here later.

I know there are a few Av with factory running boards and mud flaps. You can have both and they do fit. On gmtrucks.com there is a member that has them both on.

I've got the factory assist steps, and both sets of molded mud flaps. They both fit.

I have the factory running boards on mine. I saw the same thing you did in the dealer I use. At the time, the Avs were new enough that no one really seemed to know the right answer. I had him order the fronts and the rears. I showed him GMParts direct price and he met it. They came in and I installed them with no problem at all. They look great and they really save the side of the truck. I was able to put on the backs without removing the tires also. I had seen the same thing you did, but the running boards don't come close enogh to effect the splash gaurds.

Thanks for all the help - I guess I'll go order a set of front mud flaps...with all the run-off from sprinklers around here, I splash through water at every intersection.

Cheers, Jim

Go for it Jim!

I had mine installed today at the dealer... they did not know about the possible issue and had no problems getting them on. They look great and the factory running boards are untouched and out of the way. ;D

;Dglad someone asked this question as i am waiting on a set of take offs of the matching running boards, the ones that are the same color as the cladding. I also read in a the book that the molded (gray) mud flaps would not work. The dealer will give me the take offs for 350.00 and i will check with our sponsor before getting mud flaps for his price,

I've been reading the posts on this site and they claim that having the mud flaps isn't a wise idea if you do off roading. I'm not taking my Av on the rubicon but I do plow through snow all winter season to get to the mountains. Is there a potential build-up/tear off problem brewing if I install front & rear molded ones with the grey steps?

BTW guys, thanks for the posts regarding the fact that you can put both front & rear on with the steps unlike the dealer literature which states rear only.

Anyone have pics of what they look like installed with the steps?

Rake,

I have run all winter with no problems with the mud guards. To see a picture, see the "First Pictures" post in the Chit Chat section.

endeavorc,

Thanks for the heads up. Time to get a quote. (and yes, from our sponsor!) ;)

I had the gaurds on both front and back all winter long. I had no build up problems with the snow we did have. ( not a whole lot in NJ this year.) I did have a problem with the cladding that was I feel related to the front gaurds. It was after a snow, and something,( I think maybe a plastic bottle) was kicked up from a tractor trailer under my front tire. I saw it, then heard a loud bang. When I pulled over to check it, the cladding an gaurd was hanging off the truck. I broke out the tools, and layed in the snow and ice to put it back together. The cladding is held on bu push pins like you use on interiors. Ther was also a bolt and washer under the frame that secured the cladding. I was lucky with no real damage done. I went back to see what ti was that was thrown under the tires but it was plowed away. The gaurds just screw to the cladding hitting no metal. I wasn't to crazy about that. Time will tell.

I too have the molded flaps front and rear on my AV with the assist steps. The fronts really keep the ice and snow/mud from laying on top of the assist steps right where you would put your foot getting in and out of the truck. Just make sure when you mount the flaps that the screws get into some metal not just the cladding. The flaps have some pilot dimples molded in as to where to locate screws, Just line em up where they follow the cladding on the inner rear of each fender and run your pilot holes in and the screws should go into the metal for a good secure installation.
