i know the topic title is another eyecatcher but i swear im on the up and up!!! I was changing my oil and noticed how rusty the front and rear driveshaft are they were raw. i hate the look ?of rust so i 320 sanded wiped it down with lacquer thinner and painted the shafts with 500 degree semigloss engine enamel. there is also some rust around the torsion mount. avrs if your under the truck check your shafts and do away with the rust.. ? ? and to goo and the other guys remember im just a happy avr and I guess maybe more than a little affectionate to my av ? ?no I'll admit it here and now ?I love my av

Yea,

My AV also has the pretty orange colored drivshafts :cautious: since orange doesn't match my red rancho lift too well i was thinking about sanding it down as well and painting it.

Just not easy to do a good job of painting while the shaft is still in place.

Heck try painting it when it is spinning >:D

Reminds me ... I have some rusty nuts that need replacing.

Anyone who was had a billet grille notice any rusty nuts/bolts?

Y'all get those things out to the track, hit that 1/4 mile and the rust will go away - nothing like spinning it clean. ;D

Now, if you would have gotten the grill that attaches using the nylon plastic ties, off of ebay like I did, you wouldn't have any rust... ;)
Sorry, couldn't resist that one... >:D

oooohh what a comeback!!

I bow before the greatness that is Goo (y)

murman z71 thats why i posted this. it may be on the deriveshafts a balance thing, like too much undercoat could throw it out of balance. but paint sholdn't affect it. maybe only a few of us are on the ground under our trucks

They do not paint them to save $$$$$........These items have enough steel to survive some surface rust and most people do not see them so they choose not to paint them....not really a big deal just kinda ugly for those who want a perfect truck....

HTH

was pulling my tow hooks for a trip to the chrome shop and saw the steering box ----dayaam it is rusty

Years ago when I was building a street rod / show car I was chroming a lot of suspension parts and fasteners that would be stressed. As I recall there was a concern over these parts becoming brittle from the electro-plating process. The solution was to bake these parts for x number of minutes at x degrees, but I can't remember what the numbers were. You may want to check with your chromer about this. It may have been bogus, but I spent many an hour in the kitchen "cooking" car parts!

steelheadchaser...... remember the "wrinkleBlack " on the chrysler hemi motors????? MY WIFE CAUGHT ME WITH A 135 HP EVINRUDE MOTOR IN THE OVEN.. That motor was extra special... I would like to chrome the rear upper suspension link you can only see a few insches of it ...but that little shine is enuf

I was under the truck today when I got my flowmaster....

I was astounded at the drive shaft...

The darn thing was bright and silver looking...and HUGE!!!!

IT looked like it had an aluminum cover on it or is aluminum..anyone have proof for the Z66?

ygmn you must have aluminum co 2 wheel drive must be alum. and 4 wheel drive steel... any z66 been under the truck??? ygmn did you see how rusty the steering box was.... who has steel???? who has alum??? thats a good av trivia question eh.

There was some rust on a few thingys...but no big deal as you really had to look.....

I think all 4x4 have steel drive shafts and the 2x4 have aluminum to save weight.
