So, today I go into work at 7:30 am instead of the normal 6:00 am because I had the joy of working the desk.  Within minutes I hear that my friend who works the east side of Henderson had been shot in the leg, but he was OK....considering.  It turns out he was with other officers searching the house knowing the bad guy, who had already fired 2 shots inside, was still inside somewhere.  But, knowing another person was also inside they began their search.  Finding the locked bedroom door he was in front and kicked the door to go in....except his foot went through the door and the bad guy shot his foot.

After a brief oh crap moment, which probably felt like an eternity, he was able to pull his foot back through the door and back out of the house.  While the other officers continued to do their job inside he got an police escort in the ambulance to the hospital.  The rest of the story at the house did not end good for the victim, but fortunately the bad guy also checked out permanently.

I always say I get paid decent until someone fights with us or shoots at us.  Today none of us got paid enough.  But fortunately all his hard work at organizing and helping in church and community related projects paid off and my friend had some devine intervention on his side.  Aside from a sore foot and shin and some lost blood nothing major was hit, no bones, no nerves, no blood vessels, a clean wound.   Considering all the bones in our feet and ankles it is a miracle nothing was hit but skin and muscle.

Hmmm, this started out as a quick note to my Nevada friends that I am OK and not the one who got hurt, but I guess I wanted to share a bit of the story with you.

See you soon.

WOW!  Probably better that the whole door didn't give way, who knows where he could've been hit.

glad it was just his foot.  I know he would have peferred that nothing got shot, but it sounds like he was VERY lucky.

Glad he is going to be ok..

Thanks everyone.  He is in good spirits and doing well.

The bad guy, well, was bad and the ending for him was appropriate.

Glad it worked out and that your friend will be OK!

I just wanted to say thank you for what you and other officers of the law have to go through to keep the public out of harms way.  In the situation listed above your friend put him self into harms way to protect others.  There is no way to express the gratitude that I have for you and others like yourself do to make my days safe.

I am glad to hear that your friend is OK, and I wish him a speedy recovery.

i heard about it on the news and was wondering if you were there.  that could have ended much worse and glad to hear he is ok.

I've been without the use of a foot that works for a few months now...

REALLY glad to hear that he'll be quick on the mend.

wishing him the best of luck!

Glad all is well.

Didn't anyone mention, "They don't use solid doors anymore."? :kidding:

When I went to visit him last night he was explaining the door kicking process.? I laughed and reminded him....interior doors you kick the door knob, exterior door kick right next to it.? He laughed and said "I remember that now."?

As vertabatt mentioned it may be good the door didn't open or the bad guy might have aimed elsewhere.? Also a good thing his foot was still in the door or the bullet might have hit something else......below the belt.? ?

OUCH ! Tell him I'm going to quit complaining about my sore elbow, carpal tunnel, rotator cuff,... at least nobody is shooting at me while I'm at work. Careless fork lift drivers are my biggest danger. Glad he's OK.

Your friend was very lucky!  Glad it was not worse.

I have always believed that you folks have the toughest job and have nothing but the up most respect, I am glad that your friend did not get seriously injured Mike.

Thank you, that is appreciated by us all.

I spoke with him and his wife yeasterday.  If is fine, except for the persistant throbbing.  His wife is not quite as well.  From my friends point of view ( I will use his name once it is released to the public) he is just happy it wasn't worse and feels good joking about it.  From his wifes point of view her mind is still running all the other possibilities through her head and it will be a while until she gets over it.  He has a sore foot but she has the worse end of it.

Oops, lunch is over.  Time to get back to work.    :E:
