So, today I go into work at 7:30 am instead of the normal 6:00 am because I had the joy of working the desk. Within minutes I hear that my friend who works the east side of Henderson had been shot in the leg, but he was OK....considering. It turns out he was with other officers searching the house knowing the bad guy, who had already fired 2 shots inside, was still inside somewhere. But, knowing another person was also inside they began their search. Finding the locked bedroom door he was in front and kicked the door to go in....except his foot went through the door and the bad guy shot his foot.
After a brief oh crap moment, which probably felt like an eternity, he was able to pull his foot back through the door and back out of the house. While the other officers continued to do their job inside he got an police escort in the ambulance to the hospital. The rest of the story at the house did not end good for the victim, but fortunately the bad guy also checked out permanently.
I always say I get paid decent until someone fights with us or shoots at us. Today none of us got paid enough. But fortunately all his hard work at organizing and helping in church and community related projects paid off and my friend had some devine intervention on his side. Aside from a sore foot and shin and some lost blood nothing major was hit, no bones, no nerves, no blood vessels, a clean wound. Considering all the bones in our feet and ankles it is a miracle nothing was hit but skin and muscle.
Hmmm, this started out as a quick note to my Nevada friends that I am OK and not the one who got hurt, but I guess I wanted to share a bit of the story with you.
See you soon.
