I wonder if anyone have ever heard of this? I haven't seen any tread on this. Sure most of us have AV's but the EXT has basically all the same parts.

Problems like leaks in the bed, cab, engine ping & bad shocks. Just things that I have been expose to personally.

The dealer finally fixed my leakage I think. Required all new seal/weather strips at the midgate area.

Squeaky front end - going in on tuesday for new bushings for the shocks.

I still have a creaking that they say is normal for a long vehicle. I think this is BS.

Will have to try a different dealer after this.

THanks,

Andrew

BTW, at the moment I'm in Akron/Canton, OH till Mid November. Anyone around here wanna to meet up?

I'm out of Akron/Canton the weekend of that cruise, Dangit.

Have fun!

engine ping

I had this problem for quite a while and ended up fixing it myself after my Dealer blamed my "Aftermarket Exhaust System" I swear they can be so useless sometimes.

It ended up being a Knock Sensor that wasn't seated under the Intake Manifold. I didn't find this out till I took the Manifold off to install a Radix.

Is it hard to do that? I would like to check that out. It has a ping even just going up hill with no load. I would like to resolve this if possible.

Thanks,

Andrew

Well, Its not necessarily hard, you just need an Inch Lb Torque wrench to torque all the manifold bolts back down to proper Specs. Its only 10 Bolts 5 to a side and you have to disconnect everything else, TPS/IAC/Fuel Injectors/Fuel Lines(These are a Pain) and Some other stuff lemme think about it.

This may or may not be your problem but I know my truck wasn't throwing any codes with it.

I'd try to prod the dealer into looking at it. being that the truck is stock!

Not sure on the pinging issues. How long are you going to be in the area?? Maybe I can point you to an excellent dealership that might be able to help you out.

Also, I am busy this weekend but might be able to break away for a quick GTG.

Let me know (y)

Let me know when you get back to OKC and we can get together. Where was that pic taken that is in your sig. I swear it looks like my street.

I heard someone else say that they had some "creaking" and that it stopped after they tightened up their tubular side steps. May give it a shot, couldn't hurt.

anhandrew,,,

Are you using any oil ? How many miles on truck ?

Have you installed the fixed orfice PCV valve?

If you are sucking oil in through the PCV circuit, you are trying to burn oil and fuel... Oil in the cylinders in excess will cause pre-ignition (ping) and will eventually if let go long enough will build deposits in the combustion chamber that will cause higher compression and hot spots...

All this will cause your issue ... I will say, that you must get this fixed very soon because if you are audibly pinging under light load, you are hammering the hell out of the pistons and causing pre-mature wear ... If you let it go too long, you're gonna have some internal damage ... You may not see an SES light beforehand ...

If this is happening, part of the GM Tech bulletin is to remove the intake manifold and clean it free of oil ... At this time, ask that they inspect the knock sensors ... There is a fore and aft sensor underneath the intake manifold ... I would even push them to replace them since it's apart ... They're cheap enough ...

Get it fixed ... If you need to print out this post please do ... This is a very common problem with LS1 based motors ... (4.8, 5.3, 5.7, 6.0)

Thanks guys,

I'm in Akron/Canton Ohio til about Mid November. That would be great to get together with someone up here.

About the Street, it's the neighborhood my inlaws live in. 126th and Western right next to Westmoore high school. I know there were a few Av's in that area before I left.

About the PCV, when I was in Toledo the dealer would not change out my PCV so I bought it and changed it out myself. It helped with some of the pinging but most importantly it helped most with the oil consumption problem i had before. I never had blue smoke that I could see mainly because I had never paid much attention to it. I noticed that now my dipstick stays the same even after 3000 miles.

About the creeking. I have done all the torquing on the bolts, still no help.

Thanks,

Andrew

I forgot, my truck got about 22,300 miles. Also the pinging only happens with i'm going up a incline. Doesn't really matter about the degree of incline. Just an incline.

Thanks,

Andrew

If you were using oil before, there may be build-up of deposits from the combustion and lacke there-of of the oil you used... I would recommend a top end decarboning, and an intake fogging... (which should be done under warranty as it's part of the consumption/PCV bulletin)

This is a buch of crap, as the dealership should be able to diagnose and fix these things... The PCV valve is part of a bulletin and the other stuff needs to be looked into that I'm mentioning here...

I would bet dinner that you are full of deposits from the oil, and have raised the compression and/or have hot spots causing the pinging... I would recommend going to a big service dept and getting this info out and telling them... Don't let it go...

If you hit a snag again, I will give you the number to my service manager as they are very familiar with this and do the bulletin all the time... This way maybe they'll believe another dealer...

I will reaffirm what 11H said, mine had the oil consumption problem and was fixed bt putting on the old style valve seals. A few weeks ago I noticed a loud "rattling" sound in the upper RPM range. I took it to the local dealer I was talking about, the tech listened and said that it needed a decarboning. The process takes the better part of a day to do, but it helped mine emensely.

Let me know if you want the number of the dealer I go to.

PS. PM me with some details of when you might want to get together.

I had my Av serviced recently. One of the issues I wanted them to address was the annoying pinging problem. When I got the Av back, the work order said "no trouble codes read, engine performing as per spec". So they didn't do anything about it.

I need to take the Av in again to have some parts replaced. Should I address this issue again? Is there a TSB or something I can reference for this issue? I've heard others have had their computer reprogrammed to eliminate pinging. What can I tell the dealer to have this addressed?
