My sunroof is leaking around the seal where it meets the roof opening. I felt my headliner damp then I looked at the sunroof and noticed drips all around the edge. I want to know if gm has a fix for this problem.........replace gasket, adjust sunroof, etc....

If you are sure you have it closed correctly, take it in. I don't know whether you will get a whole new Sun Roof or not, but I'm sure the leak can be fixed. Probably with some weather stripping or adjustment.

This is the first I have heard of one leaking.

Well first, the sunroof is designed to allow water past the sunroof lid. It is then suppose to be channeled down the A & B pilers. Maybe the problems is that your sunroof drains are clogged.

Addtionally, if you have a sunroof that has a seal around the roof metal (not the seal around the lid) then you have an AFTERMARKET sunroof installed. Many dealers have sunroofs installed locally after they arrive on site. If the leak is from THAT seal then you have bigger problems!

factory models with the sunroof have the roof galvanized on both sides...thought I would add that cause I am bored today.

Mine leaks only when I use a local car wash with the high pressure rotating sprays. I've taken to bringing a rag along when I plan to use it.

Never had the problem when doing by hand, only when lazy. Normal rain (sitting or driving) is not a problem. LOL with your dealer

So, the water is allowed to come in and drain in channels down to the pillars A and B. This would be both sides of the truck and the A and B pillars are between the front and back door. This is the design by GM? I checked earlier and did noticed what looked like plastic channels and figured thats for channeling of water, but was not sure.

When I owned my Ford Probe it was designed the same way. When you removed the sunroof (the factory roof wasn't power back in 198:cool: you could clearly see four drain holes in the corners that were roughly 1/4" to 3/8" diameter. The fore holes went down the A pillar and the aft holes went down the C pillar (the sunroof was HUGE).

My wife's T-Bird also has clear drain holes below the sunroof seal that are fore and I would assume go down the A pillar.

This is pretty standard design.

I'm up in Albany this holiday weekend and its been a light steady rain all day and noticed the sunroof Is all wet around the seal to the roof :8: I am always detailing the truck and keep up with siliconing all the seals, doors, midgate, windows but it's still leaking :8: Looks like my first trip to the General is in order. Anyone know how to make adjustments to make a better seal? Thanks in advance. AJ

I am sure this won't be comforting but I have had way more problems with sunroofs over the years than I have had with the midgate.

You can gues my AV does not have a sun roof.

I would check to see if this is factory sunroof or one of the aftermarket jobs done at the dealership.

With these problems, the run from roof racks and other dealership problems, you have to wonder how dealerships make it.

What I figured out is that when water does come through the seal it goes into the plastice channels that direct the water out to drain holes in the pillars. My Av was purchased on 10/26/01 and I have well over 37K miles on it. I have washed it many times and it has rained many times. The water that does come in through the seal is drained away as per GM design and I have never felt the roof liner wet or any other water or dampness located inside my Av.

I have run both of my sun foor equipped Avalanches repeatedly through the high pressure car wash as well as been in heavy downpours and have never gotten a speck of water in. I spent the day today in central Pennsylvania and HEAVY pouring rain and everything is still dry.
