Need a Good Remote start

I've talked with my dealer about my 03 Av and was advised not
to install an autostart due to excessive problems with them
messing up the ECU and causeing alot of problems including
total shutdown and tosting the ECU.
Has anyone else had this problem or know of an Autostart that
is reliable in the 03's.

Haven't heard of others having issues with that. Several friends of mine have had Clifford remote start/alarm systems installed and have been very pleased with them. If I decide to do this later, I will go with them as well. Check out this thread for more info:

Actually, it is not that difficult of a vehicle as long as you know what you are doing and use the correct parts. We sell Clifford and DEI and have no problems on the '03's (and now even a few '04's as well). You will need a couple adaptors to allow you to interface with the databus for 1) door locks/oem alarm arm and disarm 2) passkey bypass. Make sure your installer has done a few and you should be fine. PM me if you need models or are curious about pricing.

I had the Matrix RS 3.5 installed on my '03 Av, and have had ZERO problems with it. DEI (of whom both Clifford and Matrix are subsidiaries) makes the basic alarm that goes on GM vehicles, so in a sense DEI alarms/RS aren't really aftermarket products - they are more like upgrades. The key is finding competent installers. Personally I'd steer away from places like Circuit City, and find a business that specializes in Alarms/Car Stereos.

Also if you are looking at Remote Starts, you may want to look at transponder systems. Transponders have a small LCD display on your Remote Start / Alarm key fob that visually let you know if you car has been started. This is crucial. I had a Viper 550 (again a DEI product) on my '99 Silverado, and it didn't have a LCD display (this is a relatively new feature). I never knew for certain if my Vehicle had started or not (which sucks if you're inside your Office building and its snowing outside). The LCD Display is also nice if you want to check if you remembered to set your alarm or not.

Rotti, I responded to your issue in another thread, but was unaware that you have on '03. IN that case, I would say that a couple of your problems may be caused by the type of databus interface(s) being used to lock/unlock, arm/disarm the oem system, bypass the passkey II, and a few others. If you can find out what brand of interface your installer used I may be able to help you a little more.
