Calling all 2003 Avalanche owners. I am hoping that you can you answer a question for me.

Background
I am looking to have express down on both front windows for the av that I have ordered. As I have to swap the drivers position for my LH drive to RH drive conversion, this feature will make the conversion go smoother. I have ordered my 2003 av throgh a Canadian dealer and was trying to source a 2003 Cadillac Escalade window switch as it has express down on all 4 windows (according to the Canada GM web site).

The dealer says not to worry about this as the 2003 Avalanche already has express down feature on both the drivers and passengers side windows! Now I don't know if he was talking about all models or just the Canadian ones. So the question is;

Question
Does the 2003 Avalanche have the express window down feature on both the passenger and drivers side windows? As an extra question, what about the rear door windows, are they express down?

Your help would be greatly appreciated, when you reply please tell me if you have a USA delivered av or a Canadian delivered one.

Thanks in advance. (y)

Yup,

Both the fronts do. ?The rears do not. ?Also the left door has the adjustment switch for the power adjustable pedals and memory.

Mine was US Delivered, built in Mexico, but all '03 Av's are the same regardless of delivery or final assembly point.

Agree with tpseabird and SJProwler about the express down windows, my US-delivered Av has both sides front function this way.

However, I do believe there are other differences in US and Canadian delivery Avs, at least according to the owners manual. One thing I spotted was the difference in the radio - RDS in the US, DAP in Canada. There may be others as well.

OK then I'll bite, what the difference between RDS and DAP?

I think it's got to do with that Road Hazard Warning system thingie. If I remember right, they broadcast local road hazard info that the radio picks up and displays in text on the radio face somewhere. They don't do that anywhere in the US that I've seen.

Nope, RDS is for Radio Data System. It's a way in which a broadcast station can send info that tells what kind of format they have. Here in Omaha area there are only two stations that use RDS. When tuned to those stations the radio display doesn't show the freq, it shows their call sign or "name" (ie, KLIR or The Kat for the two around here). You can use RDS to search for a certain format radio station.

I forget what the Canadian version stands for but I think it is a similar system.

Actually TXAVy and MAB looks like your both right... I've done a lot of surfing to answer my own question as the silence was deafening.

RDS can be used for traffic warnings and for carrying the station and broadcast information, it can even display the current time on your HU for when you drive through time zones. Here is a really good fact sheet on what RDS is and the benefits (BTW it's a PDF)

DAP on the otherhand is a HU function that lets you program AM and FM stations to the one set of memory buttons.

Given the above I would have thought that a good quality HU (read expensive) would probably have both features.

Hey Skidd - great post - this takes away about 20 shameless post points ;D

You mean like that one? >:D

Seriously, thanks Blueruck... not having my avy yet I need to keep my contributions to opinions and research, with the odd smart arse remark thrown in for good measure of course. ;)
