Can one of our elec. pros give me some advice? I want to mount an LED on the Running Board that will work with the lower outside mirror light. What I need is the best place that I can get a good tap on that circuit(not in door) I removed one of the lights and there is one orange with black strip and one black wire. Thanks

Look in the left instrument panel fuse block (left end of the dash) there is an orange connector at the bottom of the fuse block. i think everything in the drivers door goes through that connector.

You are correct.... I unplugged my connector and the mirror lamp still worked...

according to the service manual the wires you want are
white (+) and black (-), the orange wire controls the relay. You should be able to pull the kick panel off and find the white and black wire going through the rubber gromet into the door.

Nice Mod-I'm not much into mod's but I am willing to try this one. Let me know how it works out.

Can you list what type of lights your using?

See if this helps (y)

West Marine and they were not cheap. The front amber & rear red are turn markers tapped into front turn lites(do not use front side turns-they stay on when in park lite mode)-They really stand out at night and look like that is the way it came from GM

Sj your the man this great mod of yours brings me one step closer to my mod which is to make the puddle lights (underneath the mirrors) work with the turn signal again thanks for posting this valuable info.

I would just like to say that your light mod is outstanding looking and yes very factory. I like it and I am adding it to my future mod list. Thanks for the great idea and great post on a how to, this is why this club is great. Great ideas and great people! ;)

To find the lights @ West Marine go to electrical then incadesant lights they are in that list(you are right West Marine is not easy to find items) I don,t like using West Marine but if you want the best it is in marine products.
Here is the LINK

It does require a rectangle cut appox. 1/2 x 1 3/4 and SS sheet metal screws to mount.Due to location I marked area off and cut opening with drill bit then trim to fit with razor knife. After rectangle cut then drill holes for mounting with light in place.Lights require a #8 oval screw that has a cap that goes over that.Caps are part of light

If I could bring myself to cut into the running boards I'd do it in a heartbeat, I really like this one.

Very nice job

want the red and amber LEDs to blink.......
connect the LEDs to the common contact on a relay.
connect the NC contact to your park lamp wire.
connect a signal light wire to the relay coil wire.
ground the other relay coil wire.
when the signal is blinking the LEDs will blink, when the signal is off the LEDs are on solid.

to blink with the park lamps off requires another relay.

im sure jason @ jp customs has a relay kit... it will take one for each side

Rod,I am not sure what you are talking about but if anyone wants the side markers on when not on flash all you need to do is tap into side marker lamp on front turn signal. This will make them on when park lites or beams are on.My Red and Amber are tapped into the front turns that are off unless you are turning or four ways flash.
