Hello All,
I'm getting ready to order my Avalanche and I was hoping all you current owners could help a little as to comments on some of the options I was thinking of getting;

1- Love the bush bars on SimTechRay's Av but I read you have to modify the front bumper. Does it look seamless or should I go with another aftermarket choice? Also, can you mount fog/driving lamps on it?

2- Running boards or tubular steps? Do not want to lose ground clearance.

3- Anybody buy the camping tent option. If yes, is it worth it and does it fit well?

Thanks to all,

Peej80

have the GM bush guard, and liked it at first. BUT - it's hard to clean the grill behind it.

I have the board steps but would now choose tubular. The boards get dirty as soon as you clean them. I don't think either is a good idea for off-roading; Boar-Ral can attest to this as he damaged his boards offroading. He did find them relatively easy to remove and re-install however.

Have the tent and air mattress; they fit real nice, lots of space, and hasn't leaked yet. You have to pack up every time you want to move the vehicle off course, though one posting reported that it stays on fine at speeds under 20 mph.

Welcome to the forum and CLUB..

Have you searched the forums for these products you are ineterested in? There was quite some talk in the 4x4 section about running boards etc....

There are several threads about the tent and heck they are prizes in the RAFFLE check that out on the home page and is linked in the zone as well.

Again Welcome!! :love: :B:

Brush Guard: You do have to use a hole saw to cut out an area for mounting. Its not hard and if you make a mistake its covered by the brush guard anyway. If you need any close up pictures, send me a message and I'll post some up for you. I personally like it better than any other guard I've seen so far. It does not have any mounting tabs on it for lights but they can be added, I'll be doing this soon...pics to follow.
Running boards: If you want ground clearance, leave them off (any type). I'll be making a custom step instead of running boards for this very reason, again pics to follow.

Both boards and tubes will reduce your break over clearance a bit. I seem to recall reading that among the tube options, the stock GM bars were the best as far as being tucked up under the body a bit more so as not to lose as much clearance...

The GM bars fit the highest and most tucked in of all the brands I have seen. They are also the most expensive. Next best when I bought mine were the Westins. I was able to do a side by side at a dealership recently. The Westin's are about 2" or so lower than the GM's.
