I think it's great! The W6's will sound much better than the last version of midgate...I'm sure plenty will complain about the price though.

I think for that price you can build a complete custom setup.

I agree... what is JL thinking charging that?  That's outrageous.

On one hand the price does seem absolutely ridiculous for a midgate and a pair of subs. The subs are W6's which are among the absolute best sounding subs around and are capable of high output as well, so that makes it better.

On the other hand it is without a doubt the best sounding drop-in sub system for the avalanche on the market today. The enclosure itself is not susceptible to water damage as most of the custom midgate replacements are since they're built out of wood usually, and it integrates nicely into the truck, as if it were factory.

$2200 is a tough pill to swallow for a replacement midgate, but think about it in terms of what you're getting and how much an installer would charge you to build a fiberglass enclosure of the same quality and fit and finish and add a pair of high end subs to the price and it seems to make more sense.

I haven't heard one yet, but I'd say that the JL guys wouldn't release any product that is less than perfect as they have a sterling reputation in the mobile audio business these days, and that's saying a lot.? (y)

I'm not sure I completely agree with this. I've heard a couple of the JL midgate boxes (the last model, not this one) and while they sounded ok, I wasn't knocked out by them. For the money these things cost, it should be painful to sit in the Av with them and that's just not been my experience. I know performance of every box depends on how they're set up and the other equipment used so I've tried not to judge them to harsh but to say they're the absolute best might be a bit of a reach...in my opinion. I believe for $2200 I could have one very serious custom box built and probably an amp to power it.

I'll have 2 15's and a 1600 watt amp that is a monster for a lot less than 2,000. Plus will be glassed and painted.

what makes you think that it's not already on there

I WILL AGREE WITH MOST PEOPLE HERE.  IT IS OVERPRICED.  AND I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR IT FOR A LONG TIME SINCE I HEARD THAT THERE MAY BE A SPOT FOR AN AMP TO MOUNT.  IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE THAT JLAUDIO WOULD PUT SO MUCH R&D INTO A BOX THAT THEY WILL NEVER SELL ENOUGH OF TO MAKE IT WORTH IT.  MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT IS THAT STUPID SPEAKER TERMINAL IN PLANE SIGHT!!  GIVE ME A BREAK!!  YOU GO THROUGH ALL THE TROUBLE TO CUSTOM BUILD A BOX AND MAKE IT FIT PERFECT AND FUNCTION WELL AND BE "STEALTH" AND THEN SLAP A SPEAKER TERMINAL ON THERE SO YOU HAVE TO HAVE WIRES SHOWING AFTER YOU DO YOUR INSTALL??????

I AM NOT REALLY IMPRESSED OVERALL.  THE GRILLES LOOK CHEESY AS WELL.  AT LEAST THEY COULD HAVE PUT SOME R&D INTO A GOOD LOOKING SUB GRILLE THAT WOULD SET OFF THE LOOK OF IT WHEN THE SEAT IS DOWN.

I'M SORRY I WAITED ALL THIS TIME (SINCE JANUARY) FOR NOTHING.

PAUL_376, THANKS FOR THE WELCOME.
