Just got my Alpine IVA-D900 ordered this morning along with a set of amps, 6.5" Alpine's for doors and two 10's to go under the rear seat. ;D Should be delivered tomorrow (FedEx priority overnight is the only way!!! ) and installed Wednesday or possibly Thursday.
Got a 15" drop down lcd for the rear bench coming in 2 weeks as well. >:D
Now, for my question. I know the head unit will not allow for DVD viewing unless the e-brake is set. Are there any ways around this? I can sort of understand the mentality behind this but the front passanger kind of gets left hanging. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Ground the E-brake wire to a ground wire.!! I just self installed my AVIC-N1 and just put the green E-brake wire with the black ground wire. Works like a dream.. full DVD viewing while vehicle is in motion.

The Alpine's are usually a little different and it may be more involved. Especially if it includes a connection to the Foot brake and the parking Brake.

When your's arrives please post if it has both connections, If so, I can tell you how to bypass it.

Figures. I'm actually not doing the install myself on this one. A friend of mine does this for a living so I'm having his shop do it for next to nothing. Just curious as I know he will do it the "right way" and hook up the e-brake. Figured I would go back in and mod it after getting the truck back. I'm just not sure how involved it is. I will however take a look at the harness(es) and see how it ties in.

As said earlier, all you need to do is ground the wire thats supposed to be hooked up to the e-brake (assuming the e-brake wire reads (-) when engaged). This is about as easy of a fix as it gets!

The above is Not True

From the Owners Manual

To display the DVD mode screen:
To watch a video source, your vehicle must be parked with
the ignition key in the ACC or ON position. To do this, follow
the procedure below.
1. Bring your vehicle to a complete stop at a safe
location. Engage the parking brake.
2. Keep pushing the foot brake and release the parking
brake once then engage it again.
3. When the parking brake is engaged for the second
time, release the foot brake.
? For automatic transmission vehicles, place the transmission
lever in the Park position.
Now, the locking system for the DVD mode operation has
been released. Engaging the parking brake can reactivate
the DVD mode, as long as the car's ignition has not been
turned off. It is not necessary to repeat the above
procedure (1 through 3), of ?To display the DVD mode
screen.?
Each time the ignition is turned OFF, perform the procedure
of ?To display the DVD mode screen.?

It Requires both a Connection to the (hot)Foot Brake and the (ground)Parking Brake.

i know that the older alpine indashes made you do that brake crap, but i was told that the newer ones got rid of this. ??? i used to install the older ones and we used switches to make it a little easier. but the whole break thing is one of the biggest reasons that i would never waste my money on alpine. to much work for such a simple result.

I'm no expert, however my local stereo shop installed a chip of sometype to bypass any safety features of the Alpine monitor I installed.

Good Luck.

I believe PAC makes a bypass piece that you send the two wires into, and it does the proper sequence of + and - everytime you start the truck. Do a search on ebay for Alpine bypass, and you can pick one up for about 10 bucks.

Finally got my Av back from my buddy's shop. Turned out great, love the setup! I Will have to check this out on eBay as this e-brake thing is already pissing me off royally. Thanks for all the responses on this, much appreciated.

You mean Your friend installed it so YOU can't watch your best movies??? :E: When driving....

*Laughs* ... something along those lines. Beats the hassle of doing it myself which I probably would not have had time to do for weeks and it beats paying 300 bucks to get it done anywhere else and probably end up with the same results. No big deal going back in and adding the bypass unit I just ordered from eBay. Considering he got this done for me in 4 hours and it cost me 20 bucks, I'm not going to stand and argue over it.
