Well y'all. As much as it hurt, we got rid of the AV. :( :C: We just simply needed more power. We gave serious consideration about going with the 2500 AV, but we wanted some gas mileage too. So, to make a long story short, we traded the AV in for a 2004 F250 with the Powerstroke. I'd still love to do some GTG's with y'all, if you don't mind hanging out with a Ford.

Well, GM just didn't yet get the hint or at least in a timely manner to put a Duramax in the Av, so if you need the torque & effeciency, it's all one can do!

I hated doing it. I've never loved a truck more than I loved my AV. Everything about the AV was great, except that torque. Whenever I was towing my flatbed trailer (1800 lbs empty) it would dog down real bad when ever I hit a hill. It was all I could do to stay at 60mph in 2nd gear. I took it to Chevy to see if there might be something wrong with it and they all said it was fine. So you can imagine how bad it dogged down when my trailer was loaded. It did great around town, just didn't want to tow when I was on the highway.

I wrote countless letters to Chevy about putting a Duramax in the AV. Me and the wife have already agreed that if Chevy drops the Duramax in the AV, we're getting one. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Anyway, it was fun while it lasted, and I would be HONORED to cruise in a GTG with y'all.

:-[ :6:  :C:

Would that make you an "Av not" ? ;)

Sorry to hear that the Avy is gone, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do...

If we do ever get a GTG going, go ahead and show up - just bring the Jeep. >:D JK.

Someone will be getting a nice, slightly modded Avy. Just in case someone is looking for a used one, what dealership did you trade it in at?

TTYL,

-Joe

I traded it in at Burt Ford on Arapahoe. Can you believe they only offered me $18,000 for it?!?!?!? I told the guy where he could stick his $18,000. He said it was because people aren't buying gas powered vehicles due to gas prices. I told him he could stick that too. After much debating and he finally agreed to give us $24,000, which was 1000 below pay off. So I couldn't complain too much. But I can tell you all right now, if Chevy ever decides to put the Duramax in the AV, it's all mine!!!!!!!!!

Can I ask why F250 and not Silverado 2500 ? :B:

I can't figure that one out. I tow my 2500 lb camper and the Av doesn't even know it's there. I can cruise up hills at 70 mph with no problem.

good question. 2500 with a DuraMax. this thing tows like a charm. i know. i have driven one a few times. and towed as well. maybe the dealer that sold the AV to you would have been a little more generous. i guess $1k upside down is not bad either. considering he only wanted to give you $18k at first.

Yeah, I'd also like to know why you didn't go with the Silverado 2500 Duramax. IMO it is a much nicer truck. (y)

-James.

I read an article in this months truckin, and there is a guy that is putting the duramax in suburbans, I guess he has done quite a few and he is now trying one in the avalanche, his name and number is in the mag, I will see if I can find the article, sounds pretty cool, they also talk about a price, didnt seem expensive, I will look for the mag. cya matt :B:

It has Str8Wicked's NFE Avy on the cover.

Just bought it tonight (the magazine, not the Avy)! Had seen it before and didn't buy it...but as I was waiting in line at AutoZone, I saw it on the rack and decided to spring for it. (Yep, they "got me" with an impulse item. :2: )

The guy's name is Bill Armstrong and his info is (on page 26):

Dept. FW
13354 SH 108
Wauseon, OH 43567
(419) 337-8228

Cheers,

-Joe

edit: clarified that I bought the magazine, not the Avy!

Remember for us Av owners in Colorado we are starting at a base elevation that's 1+ mile above sea level already... so the altitude does have a factor here for us and if you go over Vail Pass you quickly double that altitude. :cautious:

That's true, any vehicle that goes from east coast to high plains (5,000ft above sea level) will suffer a 10-20% horsepower & torque loss, so when you tow somthin at high altitude, it's gonna slow you down.
But yeah Mr Burton, why the f--d 250 over the 2500 duramax pickup?

In response to everybody...... The AV pulled great when I lived in Oklahoma. Now that I'm up here in Colorado, it was a dog. :( ...... Now the other question - Chevy or Ford... Well, to be quite honest, it was the cab room and reputation of the diesel in the Ford. We went back and forth on the Chevy and Ford for about 3 months. Drove both of them quite a bit. The dealers even let me have the trucks over night and I towed flatbed loaded with the Jeep up I-70. Both of them did great. The main reasons we went with the ford are: cab room, diesel reputation, a real axle up front, and price. We got a heck of a deal on it. None of the Chevy dealerships would offer us what the Ford dealership did..... I have to be honest though, I MISS THE AV!!!!!!!!! The ride, the looks we get, and the friendship we gained from you all. You'll be missed. But you all can rest assure, if Chevy comes out with the Durmax in the AV, we will be owning one.

By the way...Cape...we got 2000 miles on it already and we're getting 18.1 MPG. The 7.3 powerstroke (which was in the Fords until 2003) has less HP, TQ, and MPG than mine, the 2004 6.0.

Hope I didn't start something, it was an honest (sorta) question. I build Silverado crewcab HD and we'll welcome you back, I'll give you any discount certificate from whatever program we have. I don't harbor any ill toward Ford or Chrysler, some of my best friends work for them. Well, not completely true there either. I'd feel a little kinder toward Bill Ford if he could build a better football team and question his trucks less. ;)

You could have just bought a blower. The Radix can be had for about $4200 and adds about 110 RWHP/120 RWTQ with the stock pulley, on top of the stock 5.3L Vortec's 240 RWHP/260 RWTQ. This gives you 350 RWHP/380 RWTQ usable with the stock blower pulley.

And if that's not enough for you, for every 1/10th inch lower in pulley size you go (up to 4/10th's is possible with no issues), you add 15-20 additional RWHP/RWTQ, for a total of 60-80 additional RWHP/RWTQ on top of the 100-120 already. This gives you minimum 410 RWHP/440 RWTQ.

Then you could have kept the truck you loved so much. I have the Radix and get 19.6 mph on the freeway w/o towing.
