I talked to 5 shops, have it narrowed down to 2...  One will do a Flowmaster 50 Big Block dual with stainless tips for $450 the other will do a Magnaflow 24" dual without stainless tips for $325, or they'll cut in a magnaflow on the stock pipes with a new dual tip for $200....  The Magnaflow tech support rep told me I'd see better gains with the 5.3 with a single tailpipe...  Others tell me better with duals...  I tow a lot and hope to maximize performance as I already have a Hypertech PPIII and a K&N 77 Series CAI...

Gimme some more thoughts to muddy up the water... ???

The 5.3 normally aspirated likes to have some back pressure for low end torque. You can still do a single muffler and a dual pipe out the back though. The flowmasters sound good(although they can resonate in the cab), but will more than likely give you less performance. I have the Magnaflow myself and I like it.

Ok, this is what I've heard now, do the duals, but with 2.25" out to keep the minimal backpressure required for torque?  So, 3" in???  2.25" out???

I don't want loud, just deep and throaty, which I think the magnaflow will give me...  :E:

Dual 2.25" out the back should be fine.

FWIW, I seem to recall Muffman stating that performance is better with single 3" than dual 2.25". ;)

I've the flowmaster system, I love the sound, but from everything I've been reading when you want real performance like what you are looking for I would go with the Magnaflow......  I installed this system myself, then ended up having to take it to a shop a couple of times now for "adjustments" then when I added the headers and ory, it didn't line up well enough to seal and back to the shop again I went.  I've spent more in adjustments than just taking it to the shop to have a system installed, but then again no one around here can to mandrel bends.....

Go with the Magnaflow.... my very long .02

I have the single 3" magnaflow out the side and it works and sounds great. If you like the look of dual pipes, spend the big dollars and get the Borla.....lol. But I think you could get custom 3" dual tailpipes made for the Magnaflow. I've seen them before.
