Oil Pan Drain Plug Size

I have read a post on here stating that the oil pan drain plug is 14mm. Is this correct? I'll be damned if I can get a 14mm wrench on it. I think it may be 15mm. It's a 2003 with 5.3. Any thoughts??

Should we notify the local oil spill response team? hehehe

Do what I do...visit local friend with shop and let him change it....cleaner hehehe

Decide I would change the oil myself, trying to do synthetic cheaper. This will be the last if I ever get the plug out.  :E: :E: :E:Tried a 15mm 12 point maybe my first mistake. I think rapid lube torque it to 100 ft lbs.  :beating:  Kinda rounded the bolt going out to try a 12 ft. cheater bar  (y)

Oil changes are something I find is better to pay some other person to do it. I bring in my own filter and tell them not to torque the drainbolt and strip threads. I am to old to get underneath these trucks anymore and get hot oil on me.  :9:

When I get too old to climb under a 4x4 to change the oil, make sure it's done right, and check out the undercarriage I won't have a license to drive one.

'04 PT Cruiser Turbo Touring :E: floor jacks do not fit under.
Long low plastic Rhino Ramps :E: just clear front spoiler.
Oil shoots every where. Mega PITA.  :8:
Avy no jacks slide under and relax. >:D

nap

Confused, Figured I would change oil on my 02 today, takes about 20 minutes. Done it many many times, 14mm stripped my bolt. Now I can not get out. HELP PLEASE

Heavy duty Rhino ramps and a 9" long 15 mm box wrench to remove drain plug.....always reinstall finger tight before using the wrench to tighten.....box wrench has a better feel when tightening plug than a socket and no chance of stripping the nut or threads.

Wind is worse when the vehicle is up on ramps.......Always windy here.....find out which way the wind is blowing and place large cardboard panels (kept them from the large screen TV) up against that side(s) of the vehicle and tape to the windows to block the wind......no more 5W-30 shampoos!

I always slowly unscrew the oil filter with an "I" size plastic end cap wrench and socket handle....once barely loose and you get the first drips I gently turn it finger tight  just enough to stop the drip....once the wrench is removed and the drain pan is below, get a good grip on the filter with your hand and quickly give it a quick spin like a top and get out of the way......the filter will rotate a few turns and drain the huge gush of remaining oil from the galleries straight down around the outside of the filter and into the pan (so many threads there's no chance unscrewing itself completely and falling into the pan) once the flow of oil stops spin the filter off while holding upright and dump the contents into the drain pan. No oil on me or the driveway.

Fifteen minutes each vehicle tops.....takes longer to set up the ramps, creeper and drain pan and put the tools away than change the oil.
