Hello folks. Well I'm a forum newbie but did a search on oil consumtion...bear with me here:

My wife's AV is a 2002 with 16,000 miles. I noticed last week that she was down 2 quarts but it was the first time it had ever happened. Did anyone notice a leak that STARTED AFTER the engine was worn in? It certainly never leaked when it was new? Confused. Oh, and give me a "holler" if you're near the DC area!

Is is leaking or are you burning it? ?Most of the oil consumption issues here are from burning oil and smoking due to PCV / valve guide problems . . and indeed they were problems from the start.

I have about 13000 miles on the AV and the same problem,
but didn't notice it until I switched jobs.
Now that I'm making a 60 min commute everyday
it's burning a lot of oil and smoking like a SOB. :6:
I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow for PCV replacement.

Search for oil burning threads and PCV valve...there should be some info there for ya.

 Just got back from the dealer, said it was normal for all cars to burn 1qt oil ever 2000 miles, but this started at 16000 miles. I don't know about everyone and all cars but I have never had to but a qt. of oil in any new car myself. They change the pcv and said it would fix the probem; he said PROBEM.

Does everyone have this problem?

What should I do if I continue having this problem?

Almost all manufacturers, foreign and domestic, have a policy that unless a car burns more than a quart of oil every 700 - 800 miles there is no "problem". One thing to be careful of is to be sure that enough oil is installed in your vehicle following an oil change. The Av requires 6 (SIX) Quarts (actually, slightly more than 6 quarts) to bring it to the full mark on the dipstick. Many quick-lube places are used to installing 5 quarts of oil, so you may start out slightly more than a quart low.
Keep an eye on yours, but it sounds like your oil cosumption is considered "normal" by today's standards.

Had the lifters replaced with "new design" and the PCV valve replaced at 3100 miles after using over a quart in 2000 miles. Noticed on long drives, 150 miles or more, after stopping, then re-starting, a cloud of blue smoke out the back. Just went on a 400 mile trip, and didn't notice any blue smoke this time when starting it up after driving it over 150 miles, so (fingers crossed) hopefully this was the fix.

Just had PCV replacement on Friday and everything seems pretty good! ;D ;D

I don't know about oil consumption yet, but the smoke sure as hell went away!!! ;D

So far *knock on wood*

THe long trips (meaning 40 plus miles at non stop highway speed) are the kicker. I had mine for about 9 months before I knew there was a problem. Had a little trouble with the dealer.
Go to thread 'pictures of my smoking Av'. There was enough info on there to move my dealer into doing something. Had the PCV valve done and no problems since. Since the last oil change have done 6 X 200 mile runs. Oil light would have been on long ago without the new valve

I have not noticed smoking but I do notice I'm down a quart at about 2500 miles. MATTER OF A FACT, MY oil light came on at 2000 miles from the dealer's lot. I've since changed to Royal Purple and this has actually, true or not, slowed down.
