Has anyone yet determined the cause of this problem?  I've had this on both Avalanches and Tahoes and have been trying to figure out what is going on before purchasing another (i.e. wondering if there is something I can treat the new handles with).

I just noticed it happening on my 2010 avalanche, driver side. never really paid any attention till someone else mentioned it.

You might be able to use 3M paint protection film on the handles to help prevent wear or flaking?

Mine is doing this as well.  2 handles have flaked off pretty bad.  I was thinking of replacing the handles with chrome ones.  Easy fix..  :)

Are we talking about interior or exterior. Both of mine have this problem.
I missed the window on the warranty of the interiors.
The exterior I remedied temporarily when I plasti-dipped, but now that has worn away leaving the ugly yellowish white plastic showing again.

Exterior I believe.  My interior handles are black molded plastic.  I don't think anything could go wrong with those (knock on wood).  The worst exterior handle is the driver door cause it gets the most wear.  Then the driver's side rear door because I often open that one to store groceries/bags/etc...

Mine are factory painted black and all four handles are having paint wear off the inside of the exterior handles. I am looking into switching them all to the black ABS ones from 1aauto.com

I have a very unorthodox touch up... nail polish. It works for the small chips temporarily until it's can be replaced with 4 pc. parts on Amazon.
