My 03 Arrival Blue Z71 has a surprisingly excellent paint job. Is this the norm or am I just lucky.

I am pickey about paint finishes and am very impressed with the lack of orange peel, etc.

I had recently stopped at a Cadillac lot and looked at a new CTS (bored that day you know) and it looked like they painted it with a roller & Sears WeatherBeater.

Most GM trucks seem to have a very nice finish.

From my past experience I'd say you're lucky. My '98 Z28 was Black and had HORRIBLE orange peel...

My 03 AV also came with an excellent paint job. I don't know if we were both lucky but it does not matter. I'm just happy as can be.

My black AV (2002) has minimal orange peel, more than I would like!! ?:6:

I own an autobody shop for the last 38 years, and must say the paint on my AV, and others I looked at, are the best factory paint jobs GM has ever done. Also check out Wizards paint products to keep your AV looking like brand new. Especially "Mist & Shine". Find them at "www.wizardsproducts.com". I am not connected with the company. Just a fan of their product line.

I have to agree, my Arrival Blue is awesome. One of the nicest paint jobs I've seen.

Rumour was that GM was experimenting with powdercoating, I wonder if the Av was the guinea pig?

Any Ideas?

I have a small amount of dirt in the paint on the roof. Other than that it is perfect.

I don't believe GM is currently using a powder coat on the body as of yet. As each new vehicle comes to market GM upgrades the paint shop of the final assembly plant. Most of the paint systems are designed by outside companys (Dupont,PPG) and then sold to GM. Many new paint systems are designed every year but there is a tradeoff between cost and benefit. :B:

I think since moving av manufacturing down to Mexico in 03, like dodge did, (which I owned before this the Av). In that land they spray the vehicles withlead based paints, thus a stronger better looking finish. no EPA down there.

A big portion of the better paint jobs is due to better paint facilities.

The other reason is that the weather is consistently better in Silao, low humidity and fewer changes. That leads to the better paint jobs because they don't have to contend with nearly as many weather changes.

The best time to paint is on a sunny day with low humidity.

I'm not a paint and body guy, but can recognize good paint and I don't think I've ever had a better factory paint job than what I have on my 02 1500 - Black Onyx. You should see it after my Zaino maintainance - it's fantastic. I've had people stop me to ask what kind of wax I use. Bottom line, the final finsh is only as good as the prep and paint ... now just keeping the dust and flying pebbles / dings away......

Bring this one up...

I,ve just found under the hood all around the hood latch area, the paint is pealing away and starting to show rust from the inside

1 month from being 2 years old, and have 39,000 miles.

:7: not happy :E:

I think paint has a longer warranty ecspecially when rust is present...check the warranty manual that comes with truck

No, I think its good paint.  My 02 Avalanche had no problems until I totalled it.  Than it cracked.  Cant imagine why.  OK Bad Joke, either way no problems with my 02 and 06 Av's
