Hello I'm new here!   Just stumbled on this site after browsing the internet for some modification ideas for my new 2007 Avalanche.   One I was interested in was a painted bow tie to match my dark blue paint.   I've seen several posts about people painting their own but I'm not too much of a DIY'er so I was curious as to what my other options may be or if anyone knew where I could purchase a set of front and rear dark blue bow ties.   I saw posts about a member here who used to custom paint bow ties but when I followed up I noticed he was retired  :(  If anyone has any ideas please let me know.   I'm getting a grill installed today so I'd like to get these asap because the gold bowties clash!  I'll post pics when I can.   Thanks in advance for any advice!

welcome to the club..  Its not very hard to do..  My guess is there is a club member close by that could help you if you decided to go that way..  What general area are you located??
You could also let a body shop paint it for you..
:welcome: :welcome:  again

I'm located in Stillwater, Oklahoma and have thought about going the body shop route.   I would prefer to keep my original bow ties in case I ever decide to sell it so does anyone have an idea how much the replacement front and rear bow ties would be from GM or a rough guess on what a body shop would charge to paint the bow ties?

You can check with Site partner  JPCUSTOMS.com for the Grille inserts

Hi, you could always do vinyl (see pinstipe shop) instead of paint. Lot of rock chips in that area. Vinyl lets you re do as needed. I have black vinyl on my cross bar

thanks for the tips guys!  i am considering going the body shop route and just having the back emblem taken off and holes filled in (depending on the cost) and while i'm there just having him paint the front bowtie while it's in the shop.   i was originally going to go with a chrome bowtie but after seeing a few users rides with the painted ones, i was sold on that look!

Tis easy to do yourself...

remove it...

clean it..

buff with scotch brite..

Go to auto parts store buy color paint ya want.. and clear coat in spray can

Go home..
Set up to paint per can directions..

Spray 2-3 color coats..

let dry between and wet sand each coat w/ 1500 grit paper or not

then clear coat...

let dry
reinstall

Actually it can be fun to do

i'm actually considering trying it myself since everyone on the boards seems to have such good luck.   seems like a good sunday project and will definitely save some money over going the body shop route.   thanks again for the help guys.   i'll try to get to it in the next couple of weeks and let you know how it turns out!

I am going to try this myself , hopefully today, if I can decide on a color. I have the gold bowtie right now and with the yellow AV I'm not to sure what color to go with . If not I may take it to a body shop and have them do soem fine detailing like a BEE  (y)
Let ya know how it comes out  (y)

Either Yellow or Black would look good on it. If you go with Yellow, Krylon Fusions "Sunbeam/Safety Yellow" is a close match. ;)
:welcome: invisiblespam and congrats on the new Av!

Well as luck would have it I have been unable to find a paint that matches my avalanche.   I purchased all the primer, clear coat, and sandpaper I need but everywhere I checked did not have a duplicolor product that matched.   I did some further investigating and it turns out that they only have the paint that matches my truck in the small scratch fix variety.   Does anyone know any other brands that would be able to match 2007 dark ming blue??  The color code is U722.   My other option involves driving two hours to a o'relieys that mixes paint and puts it in a spray can for you and I would rather not do this!

Thank you for the links!  Paint scratch had what I needed!  hopefully will get the paint soon and get some color on that bow tie!

welcome  :D
looking forward to pics of it done

haha I know I need some pics!  I most likely won't get to the bow ties until at least the weekend (depending on when the paint gets here) with school starting back up and working full time but I'll make as much time for the new AV as I can.   Thanks again for the tips.

Well I attempted to paint my own with horrible results. . .   I remember reading there was a board member who used to paint bow ties but was semi-retired?  Can anyone tell me who it was I would be interested in obtaining a set of 2007 bow ties painted dark ming blue with a somewhat professional look.   Mine are just horrible and really take away from my nice looking 2007.   Anyone have any suggestions short of taking it to a body shop?

How do you get the Bow Tie off  the front...?

Pop the hood, rempve the two nuts on the back of the bowtie then firmly wiggle and pull.  There are a couple of small pieces of body tape on the back of the bowtie so you have to pull firmly.  Easy.
