Has anyone with the Victory Red Av painted the letters on the cladding?

If so, what color did you go with? Red or White?

I know white would be more visible but would it stick out too much and look goofy.

Would Red even be noticable????

I used Stripeman letters, and they fell off (twice). They replaced them the first time, and I haven't done anything since they've fallen off the second time. I have a Victory Red Av, and I went with the Red inserts. It looks sharp, so I guess I'll paint mine red as well 'cause I miss it without the lettering.

I had a little problem wit the edges curling up so I used crazy glue and applied it with a toothpick. I can now say that these letters are not going anywhere!!!!!

I used the Testor's paint stick to paint my cladding lettering gold, on my black Av. It came out okay, but not great. The paint seemed to go on somewhat uneven, but that could have been because it was a bit chilly that day. So I'll apply a second coat when it gets a little warmer. Also, the gold is metallic, and has a little too much shine for my taste. That may dull as time goes on, or I can wash the truck so the rest of it shines as well to match!

I just bought a Red Paint pen, but I haven't put it on due to the weather. I've read too much about the decals coming off. I think red is the best color.

I didn't get the testor brand - couldn't find one near me.
I haven't had time to research the paint (opaque). It says it is for outdoors and lightfast. I want to check more into the paint before i use it.

Are the testor pens on the web broad? I couldn't find that info. Has anybody used non testor pens?

I used stripeman gold letters on my Vic Red AV to match some other gold trim--really stands out

I have never had a problem with the letters pealing and I pressure wash my AV a couple3+ times a week--

the trick is to clean thouroughly before applying the letters , with rubbing alcohol--
If you have ever used a protector [303 or armoral] on the cladding that may also hinder the adhesion

Also apply the letters in the hot sun
it takes a couple of days for the striping glue to reach its maximum strength so don't get them wet

I'd go with Red. If not, my other option would be Black. Just my opinion obviously. ;)

FSUGUY,

I found this link to Testors on another post.

I'm sure one of the moderators will point you in the right direction for the "tape mods" on the board, but I myself own a Victory Red Z-71 and I used 3M reflective tape from Pearl Art Supply in NY city. A 20' roll costs $6.95. The problem with these is that you need to cut them out yourself (there is a template floating around in that other post). here's my results:

here's another shot from a different angle:

These have been on since August and they only show slight peeling - then again, for the size of the roll I got I could replace them every year and not run out of tape! ? ? ?>:D

Good Luck!

Jake

I used a Krylon Silverleafing pen, cleaned the surface very well with Simple Green, then 3-4 passes with rubbing alcohol. I just painted the high portions of the letters - 2 coats. They sort of blend into the cladding in direct sunlight, but stand out very well at night, in the shade, or on overcast days. They also held up to a commercial carwash :D

I imagine this technique will work very well on the darker cladding...

I painted my letters on the cladding with a red paint stick from Walmart. The paint is water soluable and cleans up with a wet cloth if you make a mistake. I've had mine on since Sept., through several washings and no problems todate.

I used the Testors paint pen on the bug shield and have not yet got it to cover completly after four coats. I think it is because of the slick surface.

I am very happy with my red painted cladding letters and would do it the same way again.

 ??? I just tried making a stencil (ez part) cutting out the letters is harder and to time consuming (real eye strain). I was using reflective tape with a razor knife. I bought paint markers but didn't like the way it looked. I spented a total of $30.00 for tape, knife, paint markers I am now going with stripeman reflective red. :2: :0:

I went with the red reflective. It looks just like the pics of lightbg's. No problems so far.

(y) whenever you want to paint your letters try to paint the letters in white then repaint the color you want over the white. that will actually bring out better and richier color.

I have the Stripeman letters and they look great but I?m disappointed in how they?ve held up. They are about 6 months old and have problems pealing off. The surface was properly prepaid before I installed them.

As I wash my AV every weekend they just don?t hold up well to that much washing, especially on the tail gate. I have the Testor Enamel pens on order and will try painting the tail gate lettters first and if it goes well I'll do the sides.

I was going to suggest you try this, because I thought it looked really cool. lightbg's pics look great, I don't know if I could cut that straight. I have a black AV with the black letters from Stripeman, about 4 months. No problems so far, but I really like that reflective look. If mine ever peal off ...

I went to a craft store and bought a regular old silver metallic paint pen, it said it was weatherproof, and that's basically all I was looking for.......put it on, it's held up in the rain and through a car wash, plus it was only $3.99, so I'm happy.

I haven't done the sides yet, but I will once it warms up outside.

;D

I will keep all my stripeman letters as they are holding up very nicely - but I just bought the paint pens and am planing on doing a few additional trim ideas with my mudflaps and those lines in the cladding that Johnny did in pinstripe (I tried pinstrip in the grooves and it didnt stay :-[)

Your stripeman letters haven?t budged, mine are falling off. My pen stripes on the cladding are holding firm, yours fell off. I know we prepped the same, washed with Dawn, cleaned with Simple Green and whipped down with alcohol?go figure. I still may try a clear coat over the letters before I peal them off.

Here's a picture of my painted cladding letters on my 2003 Victory Red Z71. I used a red paint pen called "Painters", made by Hunt Corp. It's a water-based pen, so we'll see how it holds up. I got it at a local craft store, I've yet to see the Testors enamel pens in my area.

The little bowtie is a vinyl decal that is slightly raised up, I picked up a pair of them from Auto Zone for $5.99. I think I'll get one more to put on the right rear corner of the tailgate to match/offset the painted letters back there.

John, use Crazy GLue and a tooth pick. Dab a little crazy glue on the end of the tooth pick and wipe it underneath the letters that have started to peel. This is a permanent solution. Good Luck!!!

Ok, Bringing this up,

I have a Forest Green AV with the Tan Interior,

I'm considering the Stripeman z71 fade letters for the tailgate and would like opinions on what color to paint my cladding letters.,

any Ideas? (not the best at color coordinating) ?:3:

I saw NascarDave's lettering yesterday and was impressed. So much so I have decided to go silver on mine as well. (I was considering white)
