Well,I found a good price on the recommended PF59 filters @ $2.39 each.BUT...I had 2 PF59s I had previously purchased. One from Walmart and one at Autozone. They are very different filters!

?One is like the one pictured at the website I found www.sdpc2000.com (search for part#25014748...then click on "more info" for the picture).Notice there are 5 holes around the center threads.

?The one from Autozone has 6 holes and different internals.Anyone know what gives?Which is better? ??? ?

I have 8 PF59 filters at the moment. All of them have 5 holes. 4 were bought at walmart and 4 were bought at kmart

I got 12 filters from walmart @ 50 cents each (on sale they were getting rid of all their ac delco products)
I got 4 from kmart @ $2.89 each

Interesting development.I read about 900 posts on "what is the best oil filter".Most filters are made by a few manufacturers(Dana-Wix,Champion,Allied-Fram,etc.).

So I was in Walmart and looked at their "store brand",a Super Tech part#ST3675.It appears to be identical to the AC Delco PF59 from Autozone. It is a unique looking filter,if you examine it closely. It is made by Champion Labs for Walmart.Champion is a well-known maker of Delcos.hmmmm.

For $1.98 a filter,it appears to be an excellent choice for those that change every 3-4K miles. It is a very well made filter and blows Frams out of the water.I cut a Fram apart after using them for years...Ughhhhhh.Junk.

Dang,Tim
You are correct.I weighed both:
SuperTech=9.75 oz.
AC Delco=9.50 oz.

So the STech is an even better buy,by the pound! How anal can we get?

Running out of time. Need help immediately.

Went to Autozone (a.k.a. son-of-a-b-zone), to get oil and filter. For the filter, their book said

AC DELCO PF58.

I got it, drained the oil, took the OEM filter (first oil change), and the filter was

AC DELCO PF59

Is there a difference in these filters? They look the same length but it is hard to see since the one I took off is covered in oil (damn chevy for such a stupid filter placement).

Anybody know? I'm trying to find application charts on line but haven't found any yet. Please help. Need to do this in the next .5 hour.

Thanks.
Nate

Nate

I looked up the PF58 on AC Delco

It fits 433 Chevy cars - did not see it listed for any 5.3L trucks.

Looks like you need to run for the 59

I looked it up on Autozone.com and came up with:

AC-DELCO FILTER - OIL for a 2002 CHEVROLET TRUCK AVALANCHE 1500 4WD

Unit Price: ? $3.49
Core Value*: ? $0.00
Part No.: ? PF59
Weight: ? 0.67 lbs.
Warranty: ? ?
Store: Normally Stocked ?

Nothing about the PF58.

Thanks everyone. I found AC delco's site and saw they did say PF59.

So I ran back to Cra-po-Zone and exchanged it quick enough. I double checked their book to make sure I didn't mess up. I didn't. Their book is fuz-ucked. :8:

Anyhoo... all done now. I really appreciate the quick responses. Now I'm off on a trip. See ya next week!!

The difference between a PF58 and PF59 is that the 59 has an anti-drainback valve and the other doesn't, everything else is identical.

Does anyone have a sorce at Chevrolet bout the use of a PF-44 on an '02 Avy with the 5.3???
I am asking because the PF-44 is the filter used on Corvettes...A/C Delco still makes the UPF-44 which is their premium Ultragurad Gold filter (black in color) and I wanted to know if I could use these.
Not opinions please, anyone from Chevy know if they have phased out the use of the -59 in favor of the -44?
Thanks, I am due for an oil change and would like to changeover to Mobil 1 and the UPF-44 if that is safe. :B: ;)

I am not familier with the part numbers.. but I am wondering the same. Is that a high(er) capacity that stock? there are usually different lengths to an oil filter and I was wondering what would fit....

:B:

you have it backwards ... the 44 is a very short filter .... the AC delco book actually says to use the pf-58 .. which I used to change my oil at 1300 miles .... but I see no reason other than it the 58 and 59 is about 2 1/4 inches longer than the 44 ....

The correct filter for the 2002 5.3 is a PF59. The PF58 does not have an anti-drainback valve. I don't know anything about the PF44.

Nothing from you GM types though, eh...Yes I have it correctly on the sizes...I said the PF-59 is half again which means as long as the PF-44 plus half the PF-44 again...I just have recieved differing viewpoints from here and Chevrolet and aftermarket manufacturers...until I hear definitive information I guess I will be sticking with the 59 and it's type.
I do appreciate the responses... (y)

The PF-44 is what is in the 2003 owners manual. ?The 2002 is PF-59 which is the same but only longer in length.

Now I see what the connection is between PF-44 & PF-59. Wouldn't the longer PF-59 have more filtering capacity?

Roy :)

Yes it would seem so...my thought was since the '03 Avalanche uses the PF-44 will the NEW filter for all Avs with the 5.3 use a PF-44.
I like the A/C Delco UltraGuard Gold filter currently only made in the PF-44 for the 'Vette people...
My research is that this is a MUCH better filter than the already good DuraGuard (Blue Filter) from A/C.
The UltraGuard Gold (Black Filter) rates as good or better than anything out there...Better than Fram, Better than Mobil 1, better than K&N...it is made by Champion Labs and has a synthetic media instead of paper...a truly premium filter.
My original thought was if the PF-44 is already good enough with the Chevy Engineers...I could go to the smaller filter but to a better filtering filter...See?
Your thoughts??? :0: (y) ;D ;) :B:

Hmm doesnt quite make sense that the filter switched between the 02's and the 03's. I dont believe that they changed anything that drastically as to engine config ro anything.

So if they use the 44 on the 03's then I dont think it could hurt to use the 44 on the 02's. And as far as the difference in the ultra grade that is just the amount of filter material in the filter itself.

If you go with the 44 go with the higher capacity ones just to be safe.

Happy modding
