Maybe this is old news and I have to check for myself, but.........

I was considering the spray-on liner material for under mat rust protection, as others have discussed or done, but the truck dealer who does the Ultimate Linings system told me he drilled an Av bed recently for a bed slide and the bed surface is composite plastic, not just the sides & tailgate. He said put a magnet to it to prove to myself. He says no need to spend the money for rust protection, very honest guy.

Now that would be a shocker for me. I thought it was metal under there. I would like to find out it was composite since I was planning on doing some kind of spray in liner in the spring. I wish I had a magnet here ;D

Very interesting news .... but from investigations of people with bedslides the model for the Av is a unit that uses the factory tie-down bolts and doesn't require drilling at all.

maybe he was referring to a different truck?

don't the new silverados come with an option for a composite bed?

I know this - you can't put a magnetic sign on the tailgate of the Av. Found that out the hard way.

Puckey. The bed is too metal--mine's painted blue along with the rest of my truck. Lift up the mat, wipe dry all the water (!@#$ Oregon!), slap down magnetic sign--sticks just fine.

He must have been smokin' something.

I just had my Av bed done with Line-X last Friday. I would not seriously consider any other spray in bedliner of any kind. The stuff is way beyond its competition. It cost $200 for mine, but others have had it done for $150.

The bed is steel, it is not composite.

see Line-X here:

O/K, it's me again, and I started this post. I put the magnet to my bed last night and it is steel. I plan on calling that truck service dealer and asking him if he is smoking crack, what a no nothing, he even told me he checked it himself.

If he talk out his... well you know... like that then I certainly wouldn't be bringing my truck to him for any work.
