i want to go camping next year with the tent that goes in the back of the truck but dont wanna sweat while i'm sleeping so does anyone have any ideas to rig up a portable ac unit? or can you buy them? any ideas would be great

theirs two ways you can do it. the roof mounted unit that can attach to the roof rack and you run the hoses where you want them. Next is the gas operated style that you set in front of the truck the hoses attach to the window by a insert that is custome made.

Well another is ice in a cooler and a Kooleraire fan unit, run on 12 volt.

I don't know if anyone remembers a very old unit called a "WeatherZone"

They were made in the late 50's or early 60's.

We had several of them throughout members of my family.

It was basically a dark green metal, box shaped fan with two holes in the front from which air was blown out.

In the back was a plastic draw that you would put ice cubes into.

The premise was that as the air was drawn across the ice it would cool the air.

As I remember it didn't work too well, and was kind of loud.

I tried to google it to find a picture but had no luck.

Sal69,

Here is a portable A/C unit that kind of matches your description a little bit.  I'm not sure about how well it going to work but I would love to hear the results from a fellow member.

I did find other portable 12volt A/C units but the price started at around $400.00.
