OK, I am greedy - I just installed the steering wheel audio controls (thanks Jason) from the Escalade, and now I want the power folding mirrors! (Would make pulling in and out of my too tight garage so much easier) I think/hope that the mirror unit itself is a straight swap, but I would need a place to install the power button (on the Escalade it occupies the area where we Av owners get to choose from auto 4wd, 2wd, 4wd, etc.) I think I just need enough space for the button. And of course wiring issues. Parts can be sourced from Escalade and Escalade EXT.

Anyone know more about this - tried this - thinking about it?

This would have been a great option.

Where does the caddy version put its switch? Maybe time to look into the caddy version since it should fit well being the same basic truck.

There is a Caddy dealer near where I work, I snuck over there during lunch last week on a little recon mission. The caddy does not have all of the Av's choices for auto, 2wd, 4wd, etc. - so it puts the folding mirror switch in place of these switches, just to the left of the insrument cluster - it is just one button located in this vertical area, but as near as I can tell, it does not NEED all of that space.

Cool I do not have 4wd so I guess it would fit hehehehe.

Another reason to get the 2wd lol.

Time for my own recon mission.

Well I have an idea where to mount the switch - I have the cubby where the Onstar would otherwise go (I do not have Onstar) and after looking at Grandolphxx's dash set up I see I can get a 4 switch pod (gm part#15040484) for the hole (and covers for the unused switch areas, gm part#15734687) so I think I can put the folding mirror button there, and have room for more switches for other goodies!

thanks to grandolphxx for the idea, still investigating possibilities.

Man this sounds cool, i have a double garage, but one door for each car and every night i have to roll down window and pull my mirror in, sucks , but i like my av...how much would something like this go for,

Let's add it up - I ain't no Jason P but I will try - well some smart person will get us part #s for the driver and passenger mirror assemblies for Escalade - and maybe at GMpartsdirect it isn't too horrifying a price. Times two. Plus the cost of one power fold switch.

Big problem for those of us with a color other than black (I do not think we Avy owners have a match for the EXT's "silver sand" or its "white diamond" colors) is just that, the color issue. Perhaps the color piece of the mirror is removable, and if so we can move the piece from our old mirrors to the new ones - other opition is to just go with black, whatever your Avy's color. I really hope the color piece is removable, it would solve a potential problem. Another possible solution lies in the fact that the regular Escalde also has the power fold mirrors, and it comes in FEW other colors, but I bet they do not match our colors either. Plus I do not know if they fit the EXT/Avy.

Then we would also need the switch - it looks like a button, I do not know if it acuates a process as in the sunroof push once and it opens sort of thing, or if it has to be held down - another trip to the nearby Caddy dealer for some demo time would help. If the switch does not occupy too much space, I know where I will put it. (On the Escalade the power fold button is wholly separate from the mirror adjustment stuff - so I know it is a self-contained switch). I hope the mirror unit itself has two plugs, one for the regular adjustment switch and the other for the fold in circuit - but I do not know. Either way I can figure the wiring out, but it would be cleaner if they were separate. If we get prices and I do some more recon work, we will be closer.

I have the same garage door side-clearence problem, and getting out every time I leave and every time I come back is getting really old.

Spent some time with my friendly Caddy dealer - priced out the hard parts from the Escalade for this mod, in case anyone is interested:

Drivers side mirror: GM List $525, GMPD $315
Pass side mirror: GM List $375, GMPD $225 (why diff from DSM?)
Power Fold Switch: $55, GMPD $33

that's $575  minimum, before the GMPD "shipping" markup (maybe Dal at our site sponsor can do better). The mirrors come primed, need to paint to match, which solves one problem, but it will cost. And then there is the wiring, plus finding a place for the power fold switch and custom fitting it (its location in the EXT doesn't work for us). Good news is these outside mirrors should include the auto dim feature too, but I am told that relies on input from the rear view mirror.

hmmmm, don't tell my wife, she'll never know . . .

A couple thoughts - the drivers side is the one that has the dimming, someone, reality check, I don't think the passenger side does. Maybe it is because the drivers side gets used more???

These would be nice at the track - just fold them in while I am getting to the line - excellent - worth at least 5 HP.

THAT would explain the price differential - of course the parts guy was clueless when I asked why the two mirrors were priced differently.

hmm, I gotta believe 5 hp is worth $575 ;D

if I do it I promise to take CAFC-spec photos and will post them with instructions

There may be "one little glitch here..." - make sure you get the harness also - might be easier to rip a couple off, that way you would have all the parts.

I think $100/HP is about right. :)

???Heck if the mirrors look exactly the same as the ones on the av, all i need is one to fold in to get it in the garage, that would reduce the price by 200,
zeeya,,,,,,,,,,did not sign in........ooooooooops

forgot to list part #s

DSide Mirror from Escalade: 15062939
PSide Mirror from Escalade: 15077260
Power Fold Switch: 15062588

Absolutely confirm them before ordering, but happy to let someone else take the plunge with me on this one. We need a wiring harness solution, doubt that there is a separate little harness just for the folding switch (the other mirror controls are duplicate of ours on the Avy)

All -

I'd like to refresh this issue; has anyone seriously looked into it any more? I could really use it.

I have the power fold switch coming - I need to check it out and find a location for it - as I mentioned above, we cannot locate it in the same spot as the Escalade does, since it occupies the the entire vertical slot where we have atuo, 2wd, 4wd, 4wd lo. Plus I want to see how many terminals they have on the switch - I think it shoud be basic. Should be here any day.

I am also encouraged from looking at an Av mirror removal instruction page from an aftermarket signal mirror site, they show the mirror units coming off very easily, after the plastic triangle is popped of there seem to be three thredded bolts holding it on. I still need to point out that the mirrors come "ready to paint" so even if we find good location for the switch (as for that I have to believe it does not REQUIRE all of that space that it occupies in the EXT, perhaps I can slim it down) the fact is the mirrors are $$$ and add painting costs too. But I want it.

the mirror part numbers I listed earlier are for an Escalade, so, since the caddy has these features, we are assured that they are heated, they are power folding, and the DS mirror would seem to be auto dimming as well (a function that it receives input from the rear view mirror for, I think)

Jackalanche -

I knew you would come through. Keep us posted.

Question; I have a 2wd 1500, and an empty cubby on the left side of my dash. Is that where the switch is on the Caddy?

Thanks,

chevy and their cubbies! I have never visited with a 2wd, but if it is a vertical cubby just to the left of the instrument cluster, then yes, that would be the spot - if true you and other 2wds would be an excellent candidate for the mod since you have an easy/standard switch mount location.

Have the power fold switch in hand - you guys with 2wd (and maybe a cubby over to the left of the instr. cluster, or just a blank area) are waaaay better off for this mod, since the switch will just snap in there for you - as I feared, the thing can't be trimmed down. so assuming I want to use the stock switch I will have a hell of a time finding another location for it - we 4wd types may be just better off using a non-stock switch (I think the switch itself is basic, but that is for another test) that we can locate eslewhere more easily . . . .

Hey guys, I have a set of the Escalade mirrors coming in this week. I have the 4x4 buttons so I'll figure out something about the switch.

glad to know our best man is on it - I have the power folding switch, its size is challenging as far as an alternative location goes. I am thinking about solving my various mod location issues (this switch and the trip computer) by turning to the cd storage area and loacting them all there, sort of the land of misfitting switches and mods . . . ;).

When you get the mirrors, can you advise if they have a single plug or two plugs, one for the "usual" power/heating functions and another for the power folding function? (Maybe a third plug on the DS mirror for the input from the insider rearview mirror for the auto dimming feature?) I hope these are not all combined in one plug.

This is getting good... I can now picture getting into my garage without getting out of my AV!

I still have no solution for switch location, it's pretty big, hopefuly Jason can come up with an idea - the cd storage face plate idea is no good, the switch is too big. I am now looking at mounting it in the driver's side of the console, but if I do so much for the oem look :(

I also think the switch is kinda complex in its function, hard to pull something off of the shelf from radio shack for this one - JP Customs to the rescue please.

Those of us with the Z66 will appreciate this work as well - we have the Traction Assist button where you have the 4x4 buttons. ;)
