Av is in SC
I recently had to replace the power steering pump in my 1500 Z71 Av and tried following the manual. My mistake. If anyone has to do this replacement, this is a much easier way:

1. Disconnect the battery
2. Take the upper fan shroud off.
3. Take the skid plate and whatever that plastic thing in front of the skid plate is off
4. Disconnect your power steering lines and the wire from the back of the power steering pump
5. Take the alternator out (2 bolts, one nut, one wire connector)
6. Take the nut off that attaches the right angle bracket from the power steering pump to the engine
7. Take the bracket for the power steering pump and the alternator off the front of the engine.
8. Then you can get to the power steering pump with no trouble at all. Goes back in pretty easy too.

Happy motoring. Hopefully no one else breaks the power steering pump shaft in half, but I'm sure someone will.

My shaft was broke as well..  grrrrr..

Hugz,

Be carefull when you take the sensor off the back of the pump. Make sure you note what position everything is sitting in. Taking a picture will be your best bet. If you don't line up the two parts of the sensor the same way when you put it back together you'll get a B.S. trouble code. I have to fix that next time I'm home because I screwed that part up. Good luck. If you need that part of the manual, I can probably help you there.

She breaks power steering pumps and aluminum rims. I weld alternators together and blow holes through tops of pistons (the other reason I'm still kinda scared of FI). We're a great couple aren't we?  :E:

that beats a box of chocolates any day!

Wouldn't the easier way to be paying someone else to do it? :)

Hey, it's not a concept >I< employ.  I've just heard it's rather easy!

I end up being the one that other people pay to do this stuff, at times.

HUmmm sensor huh..  Dont remember seeing one of those..
Its was finished in a few hours with some help of the company I had staying here.. Went in a lot faster.  Had to buy a frigin pulley though as the old one wouldnt come off the shaft..  Wish I had gotten the high output Alternator as well and put that also..  Did change out the surpintine belt while it was off, figured 110K was enough...
Still trying to figure out how the heck the shaft broke..  LOL

I guess you got lucky with the sensor. I remember the manual saying something about "if equipped". Glad you got everything back together. I know when ours broke we were backing up the trailer in 4LO in sand after a very long trip running 4000 RPM's for extended periods. I don't know what you did. Sure you didn't let my wife drive yours?  :kidding: Glad you're good to go.
