PRNDL Meter

I have an intermittant annoyance....

Some times when I shift into drive to fast (moving shifter fast when stopped) The PRNDL meter does not light up the gear I am in correctly.

Ie I will be in D but the PRNDL meter shows N or something else......To correct I just shift back to P and then shift slower to D.

Anyone else have this PRNDL meter problem?

I had a similar problem on a Jimmy I had. I had it check out at the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong. (Surprise)

They kinda said it was me. In the end they replaced it and the new one was doing it too until I figured out how it liked to be shifted.

Keep an eye on yours and if it keeps happening I'd go talk to your dealer.

Does anyone know what sort of sender drives this part of the cluster display? It was always a pain on older vehicles to get the shifter switch adjusted right so that the vehicle started only in park or neutral, and that the backup lights came on only in reverse. Despite the Av's sophistication there may still be a crude switch driving this display - and it simply is out of adjustment.

Good point....Some of the older cars with the cloumn that twisted would have a little string from the PRNDL meter clipped on the column so it would pull out when the lever was shifted to a gear....

I also sometimes get that display problem, but it's always because the shift lever isn't situated down into the notch. Just a tap and it settles in and displays the right gear.

The dash indicator is driven by the transmission range switch, aka neutral saftey switch, which is located on the left side of transmission at the linkage shaft. To adjust it, loosen the two bolts that hold it to the case and rotate the switch slightly in either direction.

Outstanding, there are lots of questions about the 4L60E, its strength and what can be done to improve it. Those of us with the 4L85E have less problems, but still can learn - thanks in advance.
