Problem With DIRECTHITS?

Has anyone else had this problem?

When I first installed the DIRECTHITS it was awesome! ?Great power, no hesistation, signifcantly less emissions...

While I didn't buy this mod for improved mileage, I certainly didn't expect a decrease from a combined 16 mpg to 14 mpg. ?So, I called Lou and asked him why this might be, because I was staying out of the pedal I figured this was abnormal.

His response was "We are just finding this out, but with some of the newer vehicles, the computer is identifying the ?loud combustion expliosion as a knock and attempting to compensate by increasing the amount of fuel to the chamber".

In the mean time I had added the K&N filter. ?Since removing the DIRECTHITS (carbon build-up on the ring of the plug was significant after just 1,000 miles) my combined fuel economy has improved from 14 mpg to 18 mpg. ?

Now it is on to the HPIII or Diablo, but with the price difference, I am leaning toward the HPIII.

mac,

Did they give you a refund? DIRECTHITS claims to reduce carbon build up but is actually causing it! I'm not too sure about there explanation. ???

The idea of adding a capacitor in line with a coil never made sense to me as they do the opposite.

I would think other members in the club are having the same problem.

Exuse my ignorance, but can someone tell me what DIRECTHITS is?

Is this an upgrade to the computer chip or something?

I'm looking for something to really improve performance...not that this baby needs to much.

Yes, they gave me a full refund. Though, I do miss the bang I got when I got into the pedal. The acceleration was really quite awesome.

I still have the Direct Hits on my 1996 Suburban (5.7) and Love it. I just don't think it does very well with the Coil on plug set up and the really short wires. I know there are other posts going on about using different plugs and wires, but I am somewhat suspect because it seems contrary to human behavior to admit to spending money on a mod that didn't produce the desired results.

bump

I'd like to find out more about this, or if I've misread...is there some issue with DH's and manual climate control?

I haven't been able to get in touch with simtechray via PM, and I hope to install my DH's on Sat morning.

TIA :)

Didn't GoBot just install DirectHits on his AV? I wonder if he is having any issues? GOBOT!!! HELP US!!!! LoL

That post you responded to is from 2/24/03, over a year ago. I purchased my direct hits around that time. I remember talking to Lou about it. I believe the problem was related to not enough resistance in the plug wires causing the temp controls to mess up.

I know they fixed it, you should call Lou to get the story straight from the horses mouth.

thanks for the info ibshortie :)

I just picked up some used DH's...in good shape. I have an '03 w/ manual climate controls (which I know changed from '02's) so who knows if I'll have an issue or not. I'll call Lou and ask anyways...from what I've read he seems very helpful (y)

update regarding the climate control issue...

I got my used DH's on. I'm pretty sure that I have the "old" wires as the original receipt is from Dec. '02. I have not noticed any issue with my manual climate controls, so perhaps this was just an issue with '02's. Perhaps I'm the only person to install DH's with the old wires on an '03 to check.

I know it's been beat to death as this is an "older" mod, but I may go post my impressions (plus my install blunders :2:) in the main Direct Hits thread.
