For any of you in the CO area, you should check out Ptarmigan pass. It is near Redclif on 24, south of 70.

Anyway, it is maybe a 24 mile loop with many creek crossings and rock fields. Unfortunately, I did not drive, but the Av should have no problem, except for rubbing on some steep break-over points. I rode in a new Grand Cherokee and it did fine. We came across a New Trailblazer and it had to turn around due to poor ground clearence. We did have a nice set of BFGs TA/KOs on the Jeep, they are sweet tires!

The trail is so beautiful, and there are plenty of camping areas along the creek or even up at elevation above the tree line.

Has anyone else been on this trail? I hope to drive my Tahoe out in Sept sometime so I can drive the trail as well!!

Sounds cool,i will be doing colo passes july 23rd thru july 26th, am trying to put a gtg together for that time frame, anyway i looked up Ptarmigan Pass stats:Elevation 11,765 feet, eagle/summit county, Arapahoe/White River National Forest, very narrow, steep, rough and muddy, just my kind of trail to do.

You should definently check it out! While the trail was narrow at times, I think you could get by with very minimal pinstriping probably none at all. We did not go through any mud at all but a bunch of stream crossings. Kinda a change from the super muddy trails in the Smokies or midwest. A GTG would be fun, as you can make it a 24 mile loop then maybe grab some food in Redclif. Good Luck!
