Question About Mods

This is a typical newbie question but I haven't modified a vehicle since 1971...

Do any of these mods increase fuel economy? In the old days (Pre computerized Vehicles) Air intake and exhaust mods increased gas mialage as well as performance. Is that still the case?

The short answer is yes . . . mods can still produce improvements - mileage, performance, etc.

The long answer is in many threads available on this site - just search on your favorite key words - exhaust, TBS, etc. ?and start reading. . .

Welcome to ?the neighborhood, and happy modding!

In general most of the mods "can" improve MPG if used in the right combination and accompanied by good driving practices. The reality is that most won't, cause the added power tends to get used. ;D

In the old days there was a lot of room for improvement in the flow characteristics of the typical engine. ?But if you look at the modern engines such as in your Avalanche, they come standard with things that the hot-rodders could only dream about a few years ago. ?In the search for more power, cleaner emissions, and better economy the manufacturers have been forced to design and install better intakes, fuel injection, computer controlled spark, exhausts that flow better (lookat the size of your tailpipe and compare it to the typical car of the 60's or 70's, and in this case, size does matter!). ?While there are mods that you can do to improve horsepower and mileage those gains will be fractional, not major. ?The best mod you can do to improve gas mileage is to "raise your right foot", off the throttle that is.
