I saw this notice of recall online this morning. As it affects GMC Yukon XL, I wonder whether or not the Avalanche will be affected.
In documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Detroit automaker said it is recalling 6,159 heavy-duty 2012 models, including its Chevrolet Express vans, Suburban and GMC Savana vans and Yukon XL because the steering gear shaft could break causing a loss of steering. GM said it has no reports of crashes.
The recall will begin April 4.
The condition was discovered by GM's supplier Nexteer during testing of steering gear units. Component testing suggests that a failure due to this condition would not occur for at least five months in service for the most severe usage, GM said.
