Does anybody have GM part numbers for the audio steering wheel controls?
1. buttons

2.steer wheel back side trim

3.transfer ring

4.wiring harness form wheel to radio

5.mounting hardware

an even easier way is to to go: JP Customs.

he already makes kits for that exactly. comes with instructions and all. also has a bunch of other cool things on his site you might want.

happy moddin... ;D

What he said...there is a partners page on here and you get a good deal and help the site....

Look under the store clicky linky thingy..

mold76,

If your intention is to put the steering wheel radio control on the 02 you may have a problem with the wiring harness. The whole harness is supposed to be different. That is if you were planning on using the 03 parts on an 02.

Ya know...I installed the audio controls kit and it was a breeze. I highly suggest the kit. He also supports you after the sale. Can't put a price on that!! ;)

I have been contemplating this mod, but, I usually just have the radio on for background noise. But, it would be nice to have the controls at my fingertips.

Using Jason's kit is the easiest way to put 2002 style controls on a 2002 steering wheel. It's on my short list of mods, once I can make the time to work on it.

If you're trying to put the 2003 style controls on a 2002, (or even retrofit them to a 2003) that's a whole other ball of wax. You may be a pioneer, and I wish you luck.

If you really want the list of part numbers for the 2002 style controls, you could try asking Jason, but that would be really tacky since he makes his living repackaging and selling them.

I purchased Jason's Steering Wheel Mounted Audio Controls and they are great the kit Jason provides is top quality and easy to install (Even for me) not to mention he will help you over the phone while installing the kit. The only small problem I had was the steering wheel was a pain in arse to remove I chewed up the main steering wheel bolt this can be avoided be placing a dime or a quarter on top of the steering wheel bolt.

Thank's for the push, but that's not the problem.

The problem is time! I have a list of projects around the house that have been "in the queue" for a while, and no time to work on them. If I do another Av mod before I knock off some of those projects, I'll be in some deep hot water with wife.

Jeeze I installed the XMradio yesterday before this hurricane hit..and tomorrow I plab on finishing the install in the truck if UPS gets back to work here....

Oh yeah PS,,,,the postman does not deliver in hurricanes....so foergt that saying wind snow sleet or rain crap.....they all holed up at home...

quick question guys... will the steering wheel controls work with aftermarket HU's or are they strictly for the factory system?

You know when I was at the dealer buying my 02 AV I was looking at the new Trailblazer and it had the controls on the steering wheel, I remember thinking to myself how I wished my AV would have this option. Well low and behold it?s here for 2003. Since then I bought the wife a 2002 Nissan and it has the controls on the steering wheel, guess what I hate it. I keeping changing the station when turning and have accidentally canceled the cruse control while traveling down the highway. So see, I am not so sure that I want the controls on the wheel, and at least would not pay extra to get it installed if it were not already there. Just my $.02?

Check out the '02 controls. The '03 has them in the spokes of the wheel, and I can see where you could run into trouble. The '02 controls are at the side of the center airbag module. Sitting there I would think that they are out of the way, but still in easy reach.

Here's a pic from (club sponsor) Jason's site:

Anybody who has these, have you had problems with unintended operation of this style of controls?

They will work with an aftermarket HU, if that HU has an infrared remote. Jason sells an adapter that connects to the steering controls, and sends out the appropriate IR commands when a button is pressed.

I'm making progress. Last weekend I got the generator transfer switch installed... the day after our latest power failure.

Monday night I got the new front door frames painted...

I hope things go well for you and the others in the path of the hurricane!

02Avalanche, for the Audio Controls on the 02's, you'd have to go out of your way and possibly break something to accidentally change the station. The controls are set back almost even with the back of the airbag unit. If you want to change something, you have to aim for it.
You'd like them.

I haven't even started looking into putting an 03 wheel and controls on the 02's. First off, the wheel with all the buttons is going to run about $350-$500, the airbag is going to run you another $200-$300. Then making a custom harness to work with the 02's. Okay, there will be a few people out there willing to shell out that kind of doah for audio controls, but for that price, you could get a pretty nice stereo upgrade.
Plus, the other functions are most likely not going to work (A/C, OnStar, Trip Computer functions, etc.)

I love the new wheel and controls, but putting all that in previous design? It would be like putting a CDRW in a 386 computer.

Still want to look into it though.

SS I have not really hit the controls much....once when I was backing up and had my hands inside the hole to cut the wheel.....but I have since trained myself not to do that anymore
