i am new to this web site so if this question was already answered i apologize. I have a 02 2500 w/15000 miles on it. after the truck has been driven for a while or if it has a load on it and i come to a stop and then start out again there is a couple of thumps that come from the rear end, almost like something is draging, sometimes so loud that it feels like the tailgate dropped.it has been to the dealer and they said that it was the rear springs so i let them replace them but the problem is still there. it seems like it is coming from the diferential. If anyone has an answer or the same problem i would apreiciate the help. thank you

Here is another member with a noisy rear end.

As I recall GM had a problem with clunking in the past of trucks that was related to the output shaft on the trans. I think the fix was to repack it with a new style grease ?
Unless there was an obvious defect on the springs I cant see them being the problem, But like so many other times they start throwing parts at it not really knowing what is wrong.
For what its worth, If it coming from in the back I would lean towards a rearend gear problem.
Does the truck have the limted slip ?
did they bother to drop the inspection cover and check it ?
It could have a bad axle seal and have dropped out most of the fluid thereby running the gear low on lube.
Make sure the dealer hears the noise by taking them for a drive.
Good luck

the truck does have limited slip with 4.10 gears. it seems to me that it is coming from the dif but i cant be sure. i will tell the dealer to inspect the fluid to see what it looks like. thanks for responding.. pete

Like Peter Above,

I too am experiencing a thumping noise when I start up. Yesterday the noise sounded like teeth being ripped off the ring and pinion gears. It happened when I got off the Alabama Autobahn.

When I stopped at the end of the ramp, I had to make a hard right turn. After acceleration, there it was, PING, PING, PING. Sounded like the whole rear end was about to come apart. Then as the Avy straighten out the noise stopped, then the other noise started? What was that, she said? I told you not to buy this car. Your just like your mother. You better get that fixed?I didn?t think the noise would ever stop until I used the magic button? Express down on the passenger window at 80 MPH, 24 deg F. The tears in her eyes were froze to her little cheeks. Bubba, the local State Trooper and Anamal Control Officer just held a thumbs-up sign as I Passed him with Attila's head hanging out the window. Oh! Yea! Now that's Volume control. >:D

Mr Goofwrench told me This morning, ? it was just the limited slip clutches.? It would probably go away.' ??? Yea right! with a new rear end. :7: I guess it's better to hear him tell me that - than to let him try to fix it!

Well that?s my story ?Happy trails
