I'm looking for recommendations on a good clear coat spray paint I can find at Discount Auto Parts, Autozone, etc.

I just painted my bug shield white to match my AV, and since it was the GM shield (smoke) had to paint on the outside. The paint looks great, but I need to spray a few coats of some strong, durable clear coat over it.

Any suggestions based on experience?

Thanks in advance,
Gator

if ya want in a can....then any auto parts store will have duplic color...which is pretty good for this...

I just bought a can of Dupli Color Clear Coat at Auto Zone for $3.99 or $4.99. It is supposed to be an exact match for standard auto clear coats. They have the small cans for $3.29 but you get a lot more of the same product in the larger cans for only a buck more.

I recently bought a can of duplicolor clear coat, but I haven't used it yet. You can find it anywhere, even Walmart. I haven't used it yet because I am not sure if I have to sand the color before spraying the clear. Mike.

Gator,

I am by no means an expert body man but, I have dabbled a little so take this as IMHO:

Duplicolor's truck/SUV clearcoat available at Wal-Mart, AutoZone, etc...has worked really well for me for the past 5 months on my cladding letters. Don't spray it below 65 deg F. or it will dry cloudy.

Mikesav,

Sanding between color and clearcoat is not necessary but, if it has been awhile since you sprayed the color, you may want to wet sand it with 1500 grit and apply another color coat and allow to dry before spraying the clear.

Also may want to wet sand very lightly (again 1500 grit) between coats of clearcoat [DO NOT SAND THROUGH CLEARCOAT INTO THE COLOR]...I sprayed two coats of clear. This step will help to minimize orange peeling...since you are using a spray can there is no way I know of to eliminate all the orange peel effect.

Again, this is just my .02 cents but, it worked for me.
