Remote Car Starters

Has anyone installed a remote car starter? And if so do you have any tips for installation. This will be going on a 2003 AV. ???

Audiat, you're at the right site to ask. There have been a few (recent and not-so-recent) threads with opinions on remote starters. Most of them are built into new alarm systems.

One thread that talks about a Viper alarm is here, but you can find a bunch more if you do a search on remote start. If you do the search, you may want to kick the 'days since last post' up to at least 30.

You'll see all kinds of suggestions. Whichever way you go, let us know. ;D

Audiat,

I am installing a Viper in my Lanche using some professionals...they are struggling a bit overriding the AVs security system. Funny thing is, the alarm works, but the remote starter doesn't. I have to take it in again tomorrow and they are going to call tech support. I don't know what anyone else has done here, but I would take it in and get it done. Just my take...

HI,
I had the dealership install mine when I bought the truck. I got home and found the RAP (20min retained accessory power) not functioning. I brought the truck back to dealership; they said with the remote starter you can either keep the interior dome lights working or the RAP, but not both :6: I kept the interior lights.

So expect to run into this problem. If you get both to work, please post it so I can get my RAP back. Thanks and good luck...

Coach, had a Viper put in on mine about 3 weeks ago, works fine the had to use a bypass module ...every thing seems to function just as it should..Alarm, remote start, remote kill, blinking lights, doors lock 3sec after I touch the brake, hood pin, valet pin....now I have to double check on the retain power/dome light...I know that retained power works because I get that last minute on the radio before I decide to leave the truck but I will have to check the light ...but iI am almost positive it is on too...but then again I didn't go with dealer installed....looking into adding the window module, just because there is an extra button on the remote, if it isn't too expensive I think I'll have the put it on jsut to be cool  Cool as in having the windows down cooling off the AV before I actually get there

Mine both work. But this was not a GM install. I had a unit installed that was also an upgrade to security system. I (opinion only) would NOT tackle this on my own. AS others have mentioned there is a lot of work required to bypass the GM security items and have the other system in place. I would want to have warrenty to fall back on in case there were serious problems. The installer covered that.
Mine has only lost it's mind once, and it was a simple reset. AND, unlike my last one it will operate the AC as well as heat.

Thanks for the input. I contacted the manufacter of the car starter and (Design Tech) there tech support guy gave me wire colors and how to bypass the GM PASSLOCK system. Only one problem he did not have any information on 2003's only 2002's. I hope not much has changed. Will let you know how it works out. ???

Had mine done last wk,had a local shop do it for me.The dealer wanted 100 dollers more and they were going to send it out to be done.If your good with wireing fine i'm not plus it was complcated. But every thing worked fine after they were done.Great option wouldn't be without it. :B:

Double checked tonight every thing works...how much did you pay for the GM model?

I got a Polar Start installed yesterday, it comes with a 5 button remote 1)starts it 2)stops it 3)locks and sets factory alarm 4)unlocks it 5) activates my heated seats ;D

For what it's worth get a company that has been installing them for awhile, they know what they are doing and stand behind their work. I'm all set for the cold now, also with auto climate control I dont have to worry about setting the temp control when I shut down my AV for the night!

Mine will be going in on Wed for the remote window module...its a Viper add on shouldn't be to hard of an install since all other pieces there are viper :B:

but then again Leather I don't have the auto butt warmers which would get more use in your neck of the woods than mine....only snowed twice here last winter...BUT had the AV out playing in the 8inches that did fall one Sat morning >:D

Got it today even cooler than I thought:
1)will vent the window with a push of the button
2)will take them all the way down if hold the button
3)lock the doors and the windows roll up
Bonus: both driver side and passenger side interior window buttons are now express down ;Dand express up ;D ;D
