Removing Dealer Logo?

My dealer stuck his logo on the tailgate and I'd like to get it off. It's one of those plastic ones that's stuck on a thin piece of foam. Any suggestions?

Also, I'm sure everyone got an American flag in their rear window. Someday I'd like to take it out (hate to sound unpatriotic). The one in my last Chevy started to peel and looked bad, but I was afraid of messing up the rear defroster by removing it.

FtCAV,
Use a hair dryer to warm up the logo and the glue will soften enough for you to peel it off. The remaining glue you can remove with a rag dipped in a little bit of lighter fluid. Don't forget to wash and rewax that area

Another method. Spray the thing with WD40 and then get you a thin piece of hard plastic about 1" wide and slide it under. Then clean and wax as required.

The hair dryer works too.

I have heard of people using the soft dental floss...the braided stuff and kinda sawing it off.

If any goo left then try using some 3M adhesive remover or goo off.

Lots of ways to do it.

This site sells a thin plastic thingy and even show a demonstration on how to remove.

Fishing line and Goo-Gone.
Use a piece of nylon fishing line like you would dental floss on your teeth to saw the foam tape. Then use a product called "Goo-Gone" (gg) to remove the remaining foam. Then wash/wax effected area. I use gg on most finishes and have never had a problem. You can find it at Wal-mart or K-mart in the household cleaner section.

Good Luck

And I thought I was the only one who didn't care to much for the dealer sticker on my Av.....

As soon as the weather warms up...off it comes!!

Dealer stickers - Yuck :p :p

I guess I was lucky - mine just popped off with a pull on one edge - but I've used the WD-40 approach successfully too.

Same for dealer license plate frames - two of those had to go!

I hate dealer tags also...mine came from one dealership to the one i bought it from...they took off their tag...put a license plate cover on...I dont mind those...and in michigan we only have a rear plate...so nothing on the front bumper.

I actually kept mine on as it is very nice looking.

Raised chrome letters. I will probably remove them after a year or so but I think the dealership is one of the best around...SEWELL!

I won't buy a truck with a dealer logo. Both my wife's jeep and my avalanche are logo free off the lot.

I tell them that they can put a logo on and I will charge them $1 a day for advertisement (mobile billboard).

$1/day x 365 days x 3 year lease = $1,095.00 off of my already negotiated price.

The stickers don't go on.....

another good product for removing just about anything off from your car, without hurting the paint, is 3M Bug and Road tar remover. I haven't found anything yet that it couldn't tackle. But like others said, you need to wash it afterwards, and re-wax.

As in the fishing line gimmick you can use unwaxed dental floss to pull through the double sided tape underneath the dealer emblem. Clean up with any of the previously mentioned solvents works, even gasoline if you are careful.

Thanks for all the input. I orderd the standard Zaino's stuff today, so I'll try to get the emblem off in a couple of weeks when I can clean up afterwards.

I had a question about the flag in my window, too. I thought that was a Chevy thing but I figured out that it's just a dealer thing.

This is a another advantage in ordering your AV. I told them I didn't want the Dealer tag on it when it came in and there was no tag.
I do have a dealer logo on the license plate holder that gets me a few freebes from the dealer.
I love being able to wash that big tailgate without getting hunge up on that dealer tag. ;)

Got lucky with my dealer tag removal. . . Came off nice an clean while I filled up at the gas station the first time!

Now to find a replacement for the Z66 logo on the back sides !

Wait for nice hot sunny day. Let it warm up and presto, it will lift off. 3M bug, tar remover will also do the job as will GooOff.

I have always hated the dealer logos too. I did the hair dryer trick and it worked very well. It came off very easy.
It sure does clean up the look. I had a Suburban before my Avalanche....when I went to take off the dealer logo on the burb, I discovered it was riveted on! :8:

I had the dealer remove all their logos
I bought my Av from them
I didn't want my Av to be a free advertising board for the dealer
I expressed my feelings to them and they asked me to give them 1 hour in
case they had any difficulties
I was out of there in 25 minutes
Sorry, no pics yet
Anyone considering buying one of these great trucks, just tell your dealer
what you want done before you drive off the lot.
There's no need for you to be messing with all that.
Good luck - from the Aloha State. :)

I too hate dealer logos, I don't understand why people leave them on. Thankfully my dealer only put on stickers so they were REALLY easy to take off.

Funny, out here in the land of fruits, nuts, flakes and cars/trucks (California), dealerships don't dare put sticky $hit on cars and trucks. Guess they know better by now.

I've been all over the US and I continue to be amazed at the crap some dealers put on vehicles they sell. Perhaps you've seen the metal (they're probably molded plastic now) emblems some dealers even rivet onto cars and trucks? Unbelievable that dealers wouldn't think twice about making holes in a customer's car to put their giant logo plate on them.

Here's a suggestion - whenever you're buying a new vehicle, TELL THE DEALER that you don't want decals/emblems/stickers, etc. advertising their dealership. Tell them you will not take the vehicle if they're on the vehicle.

The only thing they do put on vehicles here in California is license plate frames front and back. But those come off the minute I get it home ;D

:B:I hate those advertising logos too! Make sure that if you use any cleaners to get the sticker off, you put wax on were the adhesive was! Just to keep the paint in great shape! :)
