removing super tight oil filter..

Screwdriver thru it sideways worked for me too, but remember it's full of oil.

Procure an oil filter wrench, they don't cost very much, then the money that you save by changing your own oil will easily pay for the wrench in a short order. Sticking a screw driver through the filter cannister is such a messy ordeal, but it will get the job done.  Good luck!  :B:

You may also want to try a strap wrench if you have one of those, ive had luck using them in the past.  Oh and  :welcome:

Thanks for all the advice..They sure put that sucker close to the pan..

Anyways, got it with the ol' screwdriver trick..what a mess....going to break down and buy a wrench..oy..

Thanks again..Great Forum..

I went with the Mobil-1 filter and penzoil 5w-30...acceptable?  Maybe synthetic next time? Any preferences?

Thanks!!

Yea, get that wrench. They are easier to get off while hot but you better have a wrench or tough hands......

I like the one's that you can put a wrench on from the bottom

Top one 7 bucks
bottom 16 buck but it fit's all sizes

Ya' know with the temps being in the 20-30's around here and the snow flakes flyin' around, I could use a good excuse for a road trip to Florida. Helpin' to get your oil filter off is good enough for me. I've got a filter wrench! Just kiddin'. A filter wrench is inexpensive and as was already mentioned, the savings in DIY oil changes will pay for the tool.

As for the oil and filter, I use Castrol synthetic and Fram filters, but I really believe any quality oil and filter that is recommended for your vehicle will work with good results.
