I was trying to find out what it takes to change out the studs on the front and back spindles...A few years back I had them cut to fit some rims and now I am looking to trade the AV and I want to put the original tires back on. If I don't have the tools or if it is going to cost me a couple of days down time with the AV, I may just go pay someone to do it. I just do not want to pay someone to do some work that I could do myself. To those that are all knowing.....please speak up!? Thanks? :B:

Studs are not on the rotor but are pressed into the hub behind...

have to
remove calipers
remove rotors

most then remove rear axles to have them pressed out and new ones installed
but I have heard of people cutting them close and then pressing them out manually...

be warned... you can mess things up such that you cannot put any wheel on and then have problems

Your studs do not fasten to the rotors but rather to the spindles. The rears you might need to pull the rear axles to get to them, not sure.........this will make it harder to change them but makes the rotors much less expensive and easier to change......

ygmn beat me again....maybe you will be better off trading it with the wheels on and just buying new wheels for the new one!

I corrected for my ignorance...... :D

So the rear axle has to be removed to get them out? This sounds like more work than a novice should take on. I wanted to try and sell the rims but I may just let them go with the truck. If I have to put a lot of money into replacing the studs, it may wash out the lost I would take when I trade it in. What would you say this job would take at a mechanic; 2-3hr per axle?

does not have to be removed.

some tire stores have studd removers and is cheap job for them.

Call around local tire places and get quotes
