Restricting Av Test Drives?

I took one home for 2 days before we made a deal - course he had my 97 chevy van trade on his lot while I had the AV but he already knew my financing was approved so I am sure he felt ok - never heard of a refusal to test drive in my life except for maybe a few exotics.

I had no problems test driving mine....we drove it around the lot and their storage lot looking at all AV's in stock....then we took it out on the highway and around town.....bought it an hour later. ;D

I didn't even have to test drive it to know I wanted my AV, I saw the commercial and said "That will be mine". I went to Graff in Grand Prairie, been doing business with them for a long time, they had 2 on the lot, base models.....one black, one indigo blue.......I took the black one home ;)

I can't believe ya'll had to test drive before you knew you wanted your AV.........didn't it just call your name? >:D

Dealerships like this truly amaze me. I have been test-driving new vehicles since I was 17, and not once have I encountered any problems. When I took the Avalanche for a test drive, they first offered the keys to me for the day. It took no more than five minutes, from when I walked in the door to when I drove off with the Avalanche. That weekend, they offered it to me until Monday. Again, it took five minutes at most to discuss things.

I understand how some dealerships may be reluctant to let people take vehicles for a test drive alone, but my personal feeling on that matter is that if that is the case, then I am reluctant to sign my name on the paper. It works both ways. I keep looking until I find a dealership that sees it that way. They are not the only ones doing us a service. We are doing them a service by giving them business, and that business can be taken wherever we want, whereas they are limited, unless they pull up and move elsewhere.

I tend to stick with sales people who have been good to me in the past. When I shop around for a new car (make and model), that I have never purchased in the past, I give the dealership only one chance to make it right. My wife and I are young looking, and we go and test drive vehicles in jeans and t-shirts. This way, we see if they judge us by our cover.

So far, we have had problems with only one dealership doing this (Mercury). We stood in the lot for 1/2 an hour, and then went inside, and still no one helped us. We turned around, went to another dealer. I wrote the owner of the first dealership about how rudely we were treated, and told him we purchased a Mercury from his biggest rival. We recieved a phone call from the owner himself, appologizing for the way his sales staff treated us. About 2 months ago, on a whim, I went to that same dealership to test drive the Mercury Marauder. Immediately a salesman was there to help me. He took a copy of my liscense, and we drove the Marauder off the showroom floor. It just goes to show, that if you complain to the right people, changes can happen.
