Rim size affect on ride

I'm planning a lift and I would like to know what affect the rim size has on ride.  I've seen posts that 18" & 16" are better to get because there are more size options, and 18" is better if I want to plan for a brake upgrade at some point.  While considering all of that (I'm leaning towards 18s right now), I'm curious to know what difference if any is there in the feel of the ride when comparing the same tire on different side rims?

For example, does a set of 35s ride any better on 18" rims vs 17" vs 16"?

Depends on tire size too

IMHO - the ride is not so much different between a 16", 17" or 18" as long as you are using a tire with a decent sidewall height.  once you start dropping below an aspect ratio of 55 or so, then they can get a bit stiff - but then again, I dont have a calibrated butt :D :D :D.

I have always found that you pretty much get what you pay for in tires, the only brand that to me is far and away above any others in ride quality is Michelin - but big $.

Good luck,

G.

IMO, it wont make as much difference with a 35" tire on a 16/17/18" wheel.  you'll have plenty of sidewall which ever you pick.  it really only affects the ride a lot when you go over a 22" wheel with no side wall  Once you get below about 4" of sidewall, you start feeling the bumps.

1st I am running 35's on 16"x9" rims.
Balancing the tire Bites But I also have a Full Brake

2nd tire construction and max-load will affect ride.
my intercos are a 10 ply tire.Radial

also are you talking about ride at street pressures?
or aired down to 17PSI?

also besides tire selection going down; Price goes UP $$$

I was planning to do 16" rims for my lift (loving the lower price), but one of the lift kits I was looking at seemed to indicate that if you start with 17" rims, you can't go down to 16" rims.  I asked someone at TD Performance (a performance shop that does lifts etc) about that and he said that the 16" rim wouldn't fit on my truck because the 17" factory brakes wouldn't fit.  The people that responded to my lift question indicated that I should get 16" or 18", so I've reworked my build with 18" rims ($500 extra dollars ).
