I was paying for the basic Onstar package. I thought this is cool, road side assistance, and a few other nice things. The convenience of it all, ya-know. I drive 100 mi a day 500mi a week. Sometimes less. If i were to have a flat out in B.F.E. just push a button and a local wrecker comes and helps. Driving allot, it made sense to have roadside assistance.

BUT If I had been told when I renewed road side assistance That after 36K{warranty time, not extended} Any road side repair would come-out of MY POCKET. I would have NEVER renewed, as I am near 50k now. My Avalanche has a flat, I have a sinus infection and sore throat and just worked 13 shift. My wife says call ONSTAR! OK, I say after a fight [I can fix my own truck, I say] Anyway, I call ONSTAR during Monster Garage [no less] They tell me I am passed my warranty repair service. And will not come to put on my spare on without me paying for the tire change. Then they get some adviser on the line [I THINK TO SELL ME AN EXTENDED WARRANTY] who I end up asking, "what the hell did I renewed for in the first place If they ain't going to HONER the roadside assistance,"
She said, "I don't know." [one hella time to be honest]
Just to throw away $200 bucks into the trash ? ?

I have canceled my account
my wife will cancel hers on her car

They offered an extended servace.........
An extended SERVICE OF NOTHING IS STILL NOTHING
we refused it. We wanted what we thought we were paying for, or refund our $$$$$$$$
or even pro rate it from 14 thousand miles ago......

To hell with them.

If you have ONSTAR, call them and ask for yourself.

The OnStar is for lock out, theft recovery, and help in accident, and if your have the "Directions & Connections" package route planning as well as driving directions. ?I have never seen where an extention of roadside has been promised by OnStar. I love my OnStar !

Better get a police report to have onstar do anything to recover your AV. Bad-guy cuts the bat cable and its over.
Key lock out? 2$ hide a key
$200 bucks to get NOTHING, SUCKS!!!

A description of OnStar:

The OnStar Safety and Security Plan includes the following services:
? Automatic notification of air bag deployment ? in the event of an accident in which the front air bags deploy, an OnStar Advisor will attempt to contact the driver of the vehicle to inquire if assistance is required. Even if the driver is unable to answer the call, OnStar will contact emergency assistance and provide them with the exact location of the vehicle.
? Emergency services ? with a press of the red OnStar Emergency Button, an Advisor can contact the emergency service provider nearest to the vehicle location.
? OnStar MED-NET ? stores the personal medical history of the OnStar subscriber. By being provided the proper MED-NET identification number, the OnStar Advisor would be able to provide emergency personnel the blood type, allergies, medications and even the physician of the OnStar subscriber.
? Roadside assistance ? OnStar Advisors can dispatch the nearest provider to a vehicle disabled by a flat tire or empty fuel tank. Dispatch a provider, not pay for it.
? Stolen vehicle tracking ? once notified, OnStar can track a stolen vehicle and put the subscriber in touch with the proper authorities.
? AccidentAssist ? by working with leading insurance agencies, OnStar can provide the subscriber access to step-by-step guidance to the proper procedures after having an accident.
? Remote door unlock ? an OnStar Advisor can electronically unlock a vehicle when provided the proper personal identification number. This system also allows an Advisor to honk the horn and flash the lights should an owner forget where they are parked.
? Remote diagnostics ? this system covers the vital vehicle systems. Should a "Check Engine" warning light illuminate, the subscriber can contact OnStar and receive assistance with diagnosing the problem, recommendations for solving the problem and even have the service appointment scheduled at the dealer.
? Hands-free communication ? simply press the OnStar button and talk. A microphone picks up the voice of the driver and the OnStar Advisor returns the communication through the sound system speakers.

OK I should have read the fine print. But when someone representing a company, Says your covered this, your covered for that and your covered for a flat! AS long as you have our servace................

I call that lying and misrepresenting their service!!!!!!!

And in my attempt to alert anyone else dealt the same lie should be aware!!!! You want to bash me go right ahead!!!! HAVE at me!!!!

Be aware that at 36.001k and you have a flat tire Onstar will NOT be of any use to you. A FACT they misrepresented them selves to me for a sale of $200

He has a point. They DO use the roadside assistance [wrongly] as a selling point for OnStar and OnStar-equipped vehicles. I bought two trucks with it in 2 years and like all salesmen, they have you thinking it will do everything but fix you breakfast. Have you forgotten what a car salesman does? Helloooooo??

Maybe he didn't read the fine print. Apparently I (and most all others, I'm sure) didn't either because I didn't know that. I'm glad he mentioned it too. I'd also be pissed off and feeling like I was wronged if I'd paid that much. Luckily I don't pay for it. I'd feel like a wuss being the sole-driver and healthy male I am and not changing my own flats.

Sure liked the way the ONSTAR people read the codes on the AVA and told me to reseat the gas cap after we got the steady check engine light---miles from nowhere!!

Think it is a highlite of owning a new vehicle!!

We still have not activated our on*. Never wanted it. But the AV had everything else we wanted and got a killer deal on it.

I think we are going to rewire it to use the antena for our GPS.

There are two ways to go about this.

You can disconnect the antenna from OnStar, and connect it to another GPS unit: I'm using my Onstar Antenna for my Garmin GPS

You can open up the OnStar box, and tap into the serial data from the GPS unit, and then route that to a laptop/palmtop: Tapping into Onstar GPS Signal COMPLETE!

The first one is relatively simple and safe, but requires the purchase of a GPS unit. The second one requires no additional GPS unit, but requires a set of brass kahunas in order to crack open the OnStar box and start soldering wires inside.

You have to watch Chevy roadside assistance/GM motor club too, I dropped OnStar and let my warranty expire but extended roadside assistance. My second battery on my '04 was dead when I got out of work, everyone was racing out of the parking lot so it wasn't even safe to jump start it. Looks like a NASCAR truck race when we leave the factory.

I dialed 1-800-CHEV-USA and they told me my account was expired, after half an hour mostly being on hold and my cell phone nearly dead they said they'd have someone out to give me jump in about an hour. Hey! I paid for the service. I popped my hood and got out my jumper cables, flagged someone down and was home in ten minutes. What if it had been freezing ? My phone was near dead and they keep me on hold then tell me it will be another hour ?
