Rock To The Windshield

I forgot to post this...but 2 weeks after purchase...a rock goes and cracks my windshield...ain't that a bi...pregnant dog.

What a coincidence...

I got my first rock chip offroading the nother day. It's 3/4 of the way up, wight by the rear view mirror mounting. So most of the time I don't know it's there.

the same thing happened to me. the worst part about it was that i did not even have to drive. i was jusy trying to show off. :8:

Sorry to hear about the damage, New2Chevy. While driving down the freeway another truck kicked up a piece of the road the size of a baseball. :6:

The combined speed of the rock and I would have been around 90 MPH. Luckily, the only damage was a small pit.

Last month the windshield of the Avalanche took a rock. had to have it replaced. Maker certain that the installers know about the win-noise problem. The ones I went to did and they put some extra silicone sealer in. No noise. They said that they had seen the same problem with Suburbans. It's unusal that windshield installers know more about the problem than the dealerships around here in Sacramento.

If you search on this topic, there's a line of thinking that the factory windshield is more easily chipped / scratched than after market replacements. I've not replaced my windshield, so no personal experience - but I do have several rock chips - got the first driving the Av home from the dealer :8:

I was going down the highway and the car in front of me ran over something metal that left a foot long scratch on the hood, chipped my windshield, and sliced the molding...........what's up with THAT? :8:

I got my first rock chip, which immedietly became a crack, when I had the Av less than 2 months old. It is now a crack about 20" long. Time to get around to fixing it. Hopefully the replacement will be a bit tougher.
