Has anyone looked into the GMC Sierra Denali roof marker lamps? I'm thinking they might look good on my Av. Drilling in the roof and fishing the wiring give me pause, but I like the look. Cheers, Jim

I have looked into this on another board, parts are easy, getting it installed is the tough part.

"The P/N's are; 15059751(center lamp $60.50 list) ?15059752(side lamps $60.50 list ea.) and 15366160(harness $30.96 list). ?Even with the 25% discount I got through the dealer the $55 factory option is a bargain at twice the price! I also have the '98 style lights from JC Whitney in my garage since I never put them on my last truck. I didn't waste any time putting the new ones on my '02, however, because I love the look of the "cyclops". The harness is a must, it is well worth the price and makes for a super clean install. It took me about 3-4 hours to put them in, much of that time spent carefully measuring before drilling and they turned out great.

CAUTION: If you don't like the idea of drilling holes into your brand new $30,000 vehicle don't try this at home!" >:D

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure how the wife would like me spending $$$ and drilling holes in the roof. I'd like to see some in person on an Av. Maybe I can get a good idea by looking at a GMC Denali. Cheers - Jim

I agree that this might be a cool mod but would first want to see an Av with them on. Running the electrical would definitely be the PIA step though...

Here is the idea, from the 2500HD.

Awesome at dusk ;D

I am awaiting them to come in from my local Chevy Parts. What I cannot find is what company makes the clear lenses for them. I had found them on the web but cannot remember where.

If anybody sees the clear lens kit for these, please give a yell.

Thanks.

gandolphxx,

The link to the "GM-Trucks.com thread on marker lights" pointed to one on 6000 fuel milage. Looked for the correct one but could not find, would you mind reposting the correct link.

Tks

Havng run more than my share of wires up a pillar and accros the headliner (once for my rear view camera screen, and then for my vizualogic DVD screen monitor) I can tell you that it ain't so bad at all running wires up there. The pillars are a snap (literally) and once both sides of the visor clips are removed (for whatever side you are utilizing) and perhaps the additional screw that lives under a plug up there, and the OHC is taken down, all easily accomplished, you can accomplish the task easily.

Note however that I am a sunroof Av - which in this case might make it easier to mess around up there, more ways to manuever things and more angles to come from . . .

I too would love to have the running lights on the roof look, and I ain't no weenie about drilling into my truck, but the thought of drilling into my roof really spooks me ?

I like the way they look.....but lets face it....anybody who comes near my beloved AV with a drill will get shot. Repeatedly. ;D

That's how I felt, but after hearing that the wireing is not so bad I think I am going to attempt it. ?After all the dealer took to your AV with a drill if you got any dealer instaled options like the roof rack. ;)

While I like the appearance of roof marker lights, changing their colour gives me pause. I try to be a courteous driver, and would worry that clear or blue roof marker lights may appear as a second vehicle behind you, from a distance.

I am also biased though because of the number of people on the local roads with every light changed to an illegal non-factory colour that you can barely see. (Most blue signal lights are almost invisible when lit.) And safety issues aside, while the appearance is not too horribly tacky, they are almost always associated with exhausts four inches in diameter that you can hear from two miles away. This all creates a package that is rather undesirable and you tend to be opposed to any of it, even separately.

While I have veered off-topic, my original statement still holds some weight.

bbtx has these. see the DFW GTG pictures. his is the picture with the flames.

OK folks here they are. The installation is not as simple as running the wires around. Drilling holes is not simply through thin roof either. The problem G spoke of is in the subframe up there, you either drill through it or carefully try to arrange the lights to avoid it. It is a strong structure. Anyway, be glad to give pointers and tips if anyone interested. Installation at body shop was around four hours and it was days before I got them properly wired. Wiring was finially done at Chevy dealer.

OUCH :6:

Are yours installed in the same location as the factory Markers? ?I was hoping that if installed in the factory location their would be room for them without going through the sub-frame ???? ?It would seem to make sense to me that the AV would have the same roof configuration as the Suburban and Pick-up and thus would be able to accommodate the lights offered on them. ?Might have to rethink this mod again. ?I was planing on making a template from one of the models equipped with the markers to insure the correct placement. ?Any thoughts?

I really like the appearance of the lights, especially at night. (The the bar looks nice during the day too.) The paintjob is very nice as well.

those would look to be the correct locations, if you are following GM protocol on its Silverado:

still wonder why the roof substructure would be especially challenging for this on the Av, although we know about the need for extra bacing due to the midgate feature and all.

Yeah in a lot of states, top markers must be amber.

Here in New England, police cars use blue lights which could also cause you to have some conversations with the local constabulary... ?:cautious:

bbtx: I do like the way that turned out - cool flame job on the hood too! (y)

The markers look good. But what about us that would not like the feeling of the drill through the roof? Does anyone know if they make an exterior sun visor with makers on it for our avy's yet (like the one from lund). How would you think that would look??? or would it look to tacky??

I have not seen a visor that has roof marker lights, though I have seen them on other trucks. They look quite nice as well. An option is to purchase a visor and drill into that. It hurts a lot less than drilling into the truck itself. Of course, mounting the visor itself might involve drilling. (I would assume it does, but am not certain.)
